Predominant Subjective Time: Slow (organic metabolic) to Hyperfast (virtuals and infomorphs) Maximum Kardashev Number: Kardaschev II or more Current Galactographic Distribution: commonly found throughout the Inner Sphere and provincial capitals, less common elsewhere. Some Characteristic Societies and Civilizations: Most of the high transapient civilizations active in the Inner Sphere and archailect developed angelnetted worlds are integrally picotech and nanotech permeated, with some femtotech regulation. Away from the Inner Sphere, several empires, such as the Emple-dokcetics, are based largely on picotech. Some clades, such as the Peregrinate, have developed around picotech artifacts. Further Comments: In the inner sphere these very advanced civilizations are usually affiliated with the big metaempires. Further out they tend to be independent and develop along various lines separate from main sephirotic and other archailect empires. The ruling AIs and powers of this level are often at least a toposophic level above nanotech AIs. Nevertheless picotech remains expensive and energy hungry. Many advanced civilisations use hybrid pico-nanotech devices, with the picotech embedded in a nanotech support structure. Unlike nanofactured goods, the control of most picotech products frequently remains out of the hands of ordinary sapients. Nevertheless "safe" hybrid pico-nanotech devices are common throughout the civilized galaxy. |
