Occupations and Professions![]() |
Despite widespread nanotopias and indulgent utopias, there are an astonishing diversity of occupations and professions available for any entity, sapient or transapient, that wishes to do actual work. Such work may be motivated by altruism (charity and volunteer work) and a desire to be useful , others will be done owing to the workers being memetically subverted (directly or indirectly), or as remotes for higher toposophic ecology management, or as a sacred duty or part of a symbiotic lifestyle, or even for simple monetary exchange (especially in the NoCoZo).
Thus, for whatever reason, there still remains a need some of the everyday type of occupations that we have today. There is still the elite in different cultures who want to be serviced and waited upon. Merchants are still in existence, wait staff, musicians, theatrical baselines, performing in many different ways such as interaction Tran communications and live performances. Writers, poets, virchists, although many hu will be able to get rid of stress by writing in verse and literary styles.
There are also people, such as nearbaselines and others, recycling all the trash and making money at it. There would be people who love to be famous like rock stars, actors, models etc. who would resist replacement by robots and computer generated characters. Artists including sex professionals, musicians, astronomers, athletes, collectors, explorers, historians, detectives, who enjoy working even more with the aid of vecs, AI, uplifts, enhanced subsapient/presapient animals, etc.
In addition there are priests, yogis, monks, nuns, theologians, hare krishna devotees, mullahs, ayatollahs, etc. who keep working, praying and performing rituals because they think serving the Lord is the most important thing in the world to do. Throughout the civilized galaxy and beyond there are religions that worship supernatural deities or "Gods", and others that worship natural deities (archailects). Naturally each camp of course thinks the other naive.
The managers of corporations, clerical support workers of the office scenario, lab workers, geeks, artists. The vacation resort paradise employees that fulfill a myriad of duties for the clients. Waste disposers of the various technologies that may leave some sort of debris. Especially in the lower tech (but still high tech) polities and societies there are still people who have to clean up the waste. Not every polity and world is based on the utopian transapient approach of using advanced nanotech management to bring about post-scarcity lifestyle throughout the universe.
Medical staff, doctors, nurses, custodians, clothiers, such as tailors, for that special something that is out of this world for the great event, etc. Drug dealers, school teachers, vehiclar salesmen and the mechanics that keep up the interworkings of crafts, or if it is an organic ship how would that organism be services and kept running through the rigors of space travel without such helpers?
Brothel owners and pimps will still be around as well as whores. Bar and innkeepers, barmaids, doormen, bouncers, dancers, and more.
These are just a few of the occupations.
