Copyright Notice (Limited Rights Reserved) |
As part of the effort of disseminating information and ideas, the Orion's
Arm web site employs the Creative Commons Limited Rights
Reserved license. For more on this, click on the button
at the bottom of the page. Or go to the
Creative Commons Home Page to
learn more about this worthy approach.
We in the The Orion's Arm Worldbuilding Project have decided on an attribution, non-commercial, share-alike licence. You can find out more about this by clicking on the Creative Commons button at the bottom of this, and other, pages on this site. What it means basically is that you are completely free to publish or distribute a copy, or modify, the Orion's Arm project, in whole or in part, without asking for permission from us, as long as:
If however you do wish to use the material for commercial purposes, or don't wish to give it a Creative Commons licence, please contact us so we can come to an agreement (don't worry we are easy going :-)
Note that the Creative Commons licence applies only to material on this website, or to any mirrors or copies thereof. It does not (unless actually specified) apply to any present or future work or spin-offs by the Orion's Arm Worldbuilding Group published or issued separately. (e.g. an OA-based novel, an OA TV series, etc.)
Important Note: All of the above conditions do not apply to generic transhuman or hard SF concepts like nanotech, superhuman AI, megascale engineering, traversable wormholes, personality uploading, animal or other uplifts, human-animal splices or hybrids, orbital habitats, terraforming, gengineering, posthumans, the singularity, etc, etc, all of which are already part of the current SF framework, and in any case predate the Orion's Arm project in some form or another. Orion's Arm in no way owns, or claims to own, these concepts. Nor does Orion's Arm own the idea of a shared world employing transhumanist or other hard SF themes or tropes. So you may freely write a story, create a game, a shared world, or anything else, bringing together all these themes, in any way, as long as it doesn't specifically copy Orion's Arm. (if it does, see the Creative Commons licence)
If you are a member of the Orion's Arm Worldbuilding Group...:
Materials in Orion's Arm are available for use by all Orion's Arm members provided the authors run their work past the other members for a sanity check against what has already been written and the canon. This can take the form of posting a summary or synopsis on the Orion's Arm mail list for feedback or news of the work in progress, or it may involve sending a draft of your story to one of the senior list members.
Therefore you may use any or all concepts or ideas or events or characters or entities unique to the Orion's Arm setting, including all the details, in any project of your own, assuming the the above condition is met.
