The Diversity of Food

Some Common Foods

Developed in the second century a.t. Bajiro Bread contains every essential amino acid and a balanced quota of vitamins and minerals; on a diet of bajiro bread a baseline human would need no further nutrition. Unfortunately it is relatively unappetizing.
As new human species have been developed, often with different nutritional requirements, specific recipes of bajiro bread have been developed, often unpalatable by other species.*

And one should not forget the vat-grown meats of Penglai- over the centuries this has developed into a fabulous range of real meats and imaginary ones, particularly Red-cooked Dragon or Sea Monster, in the Penglaiese dialect "Yulon `ongshao or "yu xiangh".
In many other worlds bioprinted meat has replaced live meat or vat grown meat- particularly popular for barbecues is Pribabs - printed kebabs with a sturdy central bone to hold the meat more easily when eating, or perhaps Prillets, entire animals printed without any bones at all, often premarinated.

Replication of a tiny but tasty body part has allowed the development of delicacies such as crab-brain dip, isopod heart soup, anemone eyespot sauce.

Autophagy has developed on many worlds- any individual who spends enough credit to have eir entire body copied for engeneration at a distant colony gets little personal reward apart from the knowledge hat a copy of emself exists many light years away. As a spin off from engeneration, lifeless copies can be made at the customer's request; for barbecues, banquets, and resale as desired. Some celebrities make much of their disposable income from selling their bodies for food. Several fast food chains owe their genesis from this process.

Transgenic food is another source of novelty for the jaded palates of the civilised galaxy. Vegetable/meat crosses are energetically efficient, and can be made to provide both meat and fibre- oaksteaks are good exercise for the digestion, as are pine-pemmican and pork-apples. Developed long ago for various ocean dwelling clades, transgenic sea creatures such as codchicken and baconfish are popular even among landlubber species, while completely new foodstuffs with no apparent precedent in the realm of favour, such as the completely artificial Snoekmeat and Pspam are acquired tastes.

Some Snacks and other things

The whiskey-plant.
A plant that look slightly like a tomato plant but have a sturdier grow. It produces globular, transparent fruit that fills up with an alcoholic beverage of your choice as it ripens. When you come home after work or out of a particularly satisfying virtual reality session, you just pick one of the ripe fruit, and use its hollow stem as a straw. This has the potential to be a really popular choice for the small garden. (The problem is getting the ice-cubes in there..:))

Diet moss
If you are reluctant to eat solid food, for example for dietary, religious or ethical reasons, you have here an alternative: you can grow a photosynthesizing moss on your exposed skin. The moss then produces carbohydrates which it introduce into your bloodstream through your skin.

Confection moss (Diet moss spin-off)
Tired of constantly having to buy new clothes? Nothing you buy ever quite fits? Then the Confection moss is something for you; a live alternative. The moss (which naturally comes in a variety of colours) grow right on your skin in ant texture you want. It can also be geneered to produce a drug or chemical of your choice, like insulin, ephedrine or mosquito repellent. In addition, it digests your dead epidermal cells and help regulate your body temperature.

Soap-ciklid - A tiny fish, no more than a few millimeters in length. A gel-sphere containing several thousands of these is added when you take a bath, which dissolves and releases the fish. Ey then nibble on your upper epidermis, removing dead skin cells and picking off disfiguring body hair. These little spawn then get flushed out with the rest of the bath-water, beginning eir second life phase in your sewage-system as Sewage gourami.

Sewage gourami - a geneered type of fish that lives in your sewage system, digesting everything organic. Its a dark grey in colour, with a fat body and multiple fins. It can grow quite large, and moves further and further down into the sewage system as it outgrows the pipes. The organism probably has both cockroach, vulture and fly genes vectored in. It most definitely has a highly efficient Cyt p450-system to cope with toxins and waste products, as well as multiple redundancy in its genome.
Its flesh is sold at special restaurants, and is considered both tasty and healthy. There are chefs specializing in this fish alone.
