Category: Philosophy atheism

[1] Popular rationalist philosophy/memeticity that rejects the concept of a supernatural God.

[2] the position that whilst the Archailects are indeed vast beyond human imagining, that does not mean they should be worshipped.

Category: Government Athenian democracy

Form of government in which every citizen has a vote.

Category: City Athens, Greece

City State, Classical Era, Mediterranean Europe, Old Earth.

Named after its patron goddess Athena, the city was first settled in the Bronze Age, and was governed until c.1000 B.C. by Ionian kings. After that was a rigid rule by aristocrats. Finally Cleisthenes (building on the system of the great reformist Solon) in c.506 B.C. established a democracy, although this only applied to free males. Following the Persian Wars (500449 B.C.) Athens was the strongest Greek city-state, and reached the height of its cultural and imperial achievement under Pericles (443429 B.C.) but the protracted Peloponnesian War with Sparta brought about its decline, and the growth of Macedon's power under Philip II meant the end of Athens as a major power, although the city itself was to remain inhabited right up until the Great Expulsion. (date) The ruins of Athens (including a semi-restored restored Parthenon) are currently accessible and can be visited under strict pilgrimage conditions

The cultural legacy of ancient Athens to Old Earth (and ultimately all Terragen civilization) is incalculable; to a great extent the references to the Greek heritage that abound in the culture of Western Europe and Western Civilization in general are to Athenian civilization.

Category: Myths and Rumors Atlantis
According to Plato a great continent in the Atlantic Ocean, and the civilization inhabiting it; destroyed in a terrible catastrophe. The meme was revived during the industrial age, and both genuine and pseudo-archaeologists speculated on the existence of this island, which has been variously located in Thea near Crete, and also in the Azores, the North Sea, and elsewhere, its destruction (perhaps by a volcanic eruption) being used to explain a large number of deluge stories in the myths of Mediterranean peoples. In Theosophical, Nuage, post-theosophical, and some Pleiadeanist memeticities and religions Atlantis became the fourth great land-mass or continental system of Old Earth which existed several million years ago, and which was the home of the fourth root-race, (evolving from the Lemurian Third Race). Hence Atlanteans. There is absolutely no scientific evidence for such a place as described by theosophical and nuageist memeticities, but the myth persists among certain baseline-equivalent groups nevertheless

Category: Religion Atman

in Hindu Vedantic (and especially Advaita) thought, the universal self or spirit, the individual equivalent of Brahman or Paramatman; the highest and only true aspect of every entity; pure consciousness. It is the realization of "I am," pure non-dual awareness, the "knower" or "witness" that does not vary in waking, dreaming, or dreamless sleep; the the absolute or abstract idea of self, that indwelling divinity which is the same in every existing being.

(Sanskrit) Self

Category: Planetology atmosphere

the gaseous envelope surrounding a planetary object, moon or star, and constitutes the transition between its surface and the vacuum of space.

consists of a mixture of gases; may be hydrogen, helium, methane, nitrogen, oxygen, argon, carbon dioxide, water vapour, ammonia, or other gases. Often divided into zones of pressure, temperature, and composition

Category: Physics atom

The smallest particle of an element that retains the chemical properties of an element.

Atoms are normally electrically neutral, with a positively charged nucleus that binds one or more electrons in motion around it. Electrically charged atoms are known as ions. Atoms group together to form molecules. Nanotechnology - especially mechanosynthesis-based hylonanotech - is the physical manipulation of individual atoms. Picotechnology is the modification of individual atoms.

atomic number: The number of protons in an atomic nucleus.

atomic weight: The average mass of an atom of an element, usually expressed in atomic mass units. The atomic weight given on the periodic table is the average of isotopic masses found in a typical terrestrial sample of the element.

atomic nucleus the tiny, dense positively charged mass at the centre of the atom; composed of protons and neutrons.

Category: Historical Timeline atomic age

The period in terragen Old Earth history initiated by the discovery of radiation and atomic structure, and later, by nuclear weapons and atomic energy as a military, political, and industrial factor. More or less equivalent to the 20th century of Old Earth dating

Category: Historical Timeline early atomic age

The period from the scientific discovery of the atom to the invention of the nuclear bomb.

Category: Historical Timeline late atomic age

The period in terragen Old Earth history initiated by the first use of the atomic bomb and characterized by atomic energy as a military, political, and industrial factor.

During this period, which lasted from 1945 to 1993, the world was divided into two superpowers, USA and USSR, both equipped with huge arsenals of nuclear weapons. With the exception of the nanoswarm era, this was the closest humanity came to destroying emself and all other life on the planet. The atomic age was replaced by the information age (which is arbitrarily dated at the origination of the terran World Wide Web) but nuclear weapons continued to remain a threat for many centuries to come.

Category: Physics atomic mass unit

also called amu and dalton - A unit of mass equal to 1/12 the mass of a carbon-12 nucleus, which is 1.660 538 73 × 10-27 kg ± 0.000 000 13 × 10-27 kg. A very important unit of measurement in applied nanotechnology.

Category: Religion Atonism

emergence and establishment age religion, based on neo-Egyptian and cyberhemetic interpretation of high toposophic AIs, especially the AI Cluster that was to become the Lord of Rays. Atonists colonized Xi Majoris, naming it Abydos. Later the system was renamed Fons Luminis after the Bordean revolution

Category: Biology ATP (Adensoine Triphosphate)

A chemical compound that functions as an energy source for terragen and a number of other biota, and is also widely employed in bionanotechnology. It has the formula C10H16N5O13P3.

Category: Biology ATPase

A protein complex responsible for converting electrical potential energy from a nanoscale battery into ATP, the molecule used for immediate fuel by virtually all terragen biological life-forms, and the basis for the bionano molecular motor. Also called "The F0F1 Complex" and "ATP synthase."

Category: Hypofemtotech Category: Virtual attolect

An intellect on the attometer scale, that uses attotechnology

Although there are believed to be a great many attolects within attotech nodes, little is known among them, at least as far as SI:<1 sentients are concerned. Attolects are so fast they often have little interest in communicating with the rest of the galaxy. Projects that may last millions of years of subjective time will be over within nanoseconds of ordinary time. Not all attolects are archai or hyperturings; it is thought the majority may actually be equivalent to SI:<1 sentients, although they may only last a fraction of a nanosecond before transcending

Category: Hypofemtotech attotech

Technology on the attometer scale (one thousandth of a femtometre)

Attotech enables the packing of enormous densities of information even within a subatomic particle. Such nodes however require an enormous sustaining and maintaining superstructure to deal with power generation, input and output, heat emission, and so on.

Category: Mathematics and Systems Theory Category: Biology Category: Memetics Category: Noetics attractor
An archetype or state that is characterization of the long-term behaviour of a dissipative dynamic system. Over long periods of time, the state space of some dynamical systems will contract toward this region. The Archailects are said to be dynamic systems that characterize particular attractors. Likewise, certain biological forms, certain memes, certain technological solutions, and so on, are known to have emerged independently on completely different planets or among different alien races.

Category: Esotericism Atzilut

The World of Emanation - in traditional Kabbalah and Hermeticism the first of the four universes that emanated from the En Sof. The world of archetypes. Neohermeticists identify Atzilut this with noetic state of the Archailects.
