Category: Astrogation docking

Connecting two spacecraft, or a spacecraft and a station or habitat, in orbit or in deep space, so as to allow easy access from one to the other. Maneuvering for docking is almost always done now by ai

Category: Household Tech Doctor Hadrian's Handy Hangover Helper

This handy-dandy little nanodose is a blood-born nano system which scrubs toxins from the system, greatly aiding the recovery from toxin overdose side-effects (e.g., hangovers). Only 3 creds a dose. Not recommended for the metabolically adjusted or endocrine tweaked.

Category: Transapient Power

(In Archaipelago) A high-level SI:2 power, ranking above a virtue. This is the minimum intelligence required to operate a pitch drive, or to create and maintain a wormhole.

Category: Major Empire Dominion

An abbreviated name for the sephirotic empire the Solar Dominion

Category: Physics doppler shift

increase or decrease in wavelength as the object emitting the wave moves relative to the observer.

For example, a vehicle turbine whine seems to be higher in pitch when the vehicle is approaching the observer (because the waves are compressed, shortening the wavelength), and lower in pitch when it is travelling away (the waves are elongated, lengthening the wavelength). With light waves when the light source is coming or going relative to the observer the same thing happens. For example, when a ship is moving away from a star, the star's light appears redder, as the light waves are red shifted, meaning the wavelength is longer. When a ship is moving towards a star, the light appears bluer, as the light waves are blue shifted or compressed and shortened.

Category: Empire Doran Empire

Early interstellar cybertweak empire

The mixed experimental dwarf cyber-tweak Doran clade set off in an amat-fusion hybrid ship from Toutatis asteroid in 629, setting up a colony at GL 877, before scattering among the red and orange dwarfs of the Inner Sphere (while absorbing a few relativist Tau Cetan expeditions into the cyberculture). Over the next two thousand years, the Doran empire was in conflict with the Hildago Emergent Order, Talmehtian Cruaders and the Conver Ambi in the First and Second Empires wars, and fragmented, as did the Eridanus League, variously joining the NoCoZo or the Solar Dominion. The last remnants including Dorannok entered the Terran Federation in 7855.

Category: Prolve raceDorrahsa
A race of small dinosaur provolves, the Borrah spread widely during the early Empires period. Only one clade of Borrah were settled on Owen, where they have reverted to a primitive culture. Those that are distributed through space are generally more intelligent, technologically savvy, and assimilate well into hu culture (mainly as companion sentients), although a few clades have a predilection for violent employment (mercenaries and piracy are common occupations, but only in conjunction with other races)

Category: Solar System or World Dorranok

(GL 877) k class dwarf 28.1 ly from Sol; ancient Capital of the DoranEmpire, then Solar Dominion. In the aftermath of the Version War Dorranok joined the Terran Federation

Category: Crime Doubleclaiming

later Early to Middle/early-late Interplanetary Age practice organized by criminal gangs and shady dealers, usually operating out of fly-by-night virchsites, data havens, and hastily rented and abandoned office modules.

A family, collective, or individual would be offered a lucrative claim on an asteroid or piece of real estate. Upon arriving, they would discover that their claim was part of of rock belonging to someone else. The authorities did their best to stamp out the practice, but no sooner would they shut down one than two more would spring up elsewhere. Doubleclaiming declined and disappeared during the late Interplanetary period, due less to the authority's use of increasingly skillful "hunter-searcher" autonomous programs as to the fact that most real estate was already bought up, and friendly dedicated ai helpers meant that ownership could be easily be checked by even the most InterPlanetNet illiterate.

Category: Language Douh

NoCoZo trade language in the Anglish family, derived from the First Federation Old Anglic Pidgin and Merrionese.

Category: Virch Download

[1] The transfer of a virtual created sentient or a-life to a physical substrate matrix, be it biological, electronic, nanotronic or similar;
[2] the resulting sentient;
[3] The same as an upload but meaning also a "downgrade": when the new substrate matrix cannot accommodate the sentient adequately.
