Ia to Il

Category: Xenology Iahi Daon

Extinct starfaring xenosophont colonial empire, spread out from Alpha Jupkai, flourished while Earth was still in the Miocene epoch.

The most-recent carbon-oxygen chemistry starfaring race to occur widely in the Orion Arm of the galaxy (both the Limners and the Black Acropolis builders are more recent, but the former was Perseus Arm, the latter Sagittarius Arm). Although a number of partial space hulks and archaeological remains have been found on a number of systems as well as in interstellar space, and a number of Iahin terraformed systems are known, there is no evidence that Iahi Daon territory extended to Sol System.

Category: Culture or Subculture Iceberg Cultures

Cultures whose importance, size or power is not readily apparent to (baseline) observers. Typical examples are the Silicon Generation, the Dry Empire and the Backgrounders.

Category: Animal icthyosaur

terragen Mesozoic marine reptile, superficially resembling dolphins to a remarkable degree. Have been successfully lazurogened a number of times. The largest populations in terms of both species diversity and individuals are to be found on Owen.

Category: Philosophy idea space

Generic term for the geometry of thought-space: dimensionality as a framework for all knowledge, known and unknown.

Category: Philosophy idealism

metaphysical position which asserts that forms and ideas have reality apart from their physical expression.

e.g. there is an idealized color "blue" that has a real but abstract existence apart from blue objects. Considers the spiritual world to be more primary than physical reality. In extreme forms of idealism, the physical reality is considered a mere shadow or misinterpretation of the spiritual. Classic Idealism dates back to the Greek philosophers Pythagoras and Plato, Old Earth. Idealistic cosmologies and philosophies are very popular among a number of Sophic clades and cultures. Subtypes, variations, and partial equivalents include dualism, emanationism, mentalism, and acosmism. Contrast realism.

Category: Society idealism, idealist

often used to mean sophont, most usually near-baseline individual, group, clades, memeticities, or subcultures with unrealistic or quixotic expectations.

e.g. establishing a non-hyperturing-supervised utopia on a new world or solar system. Idealism remains remarkably popular among both baseline-equivalent and superbright clades, especially away from the main capitals

Category: Society identicard

Identification and data storage device widely used during the Information Age.

The successor to the late twentieth-century "smartcard," the device used built-in microchips to store personal data and biometric data for identity verification. Most versions had user-accessible storage (up to 1 Gigabyte), integral fingerprint, voice, and/or retinal authorization, and automatic theft detection and deactivation when separated from owner beyond a predefined interval. During the early interplanetary age identicards were phased out and biosignatures were used instead, although they continued to be used in some backward Earth-side polities (or "nations") until as late as the middle 22nd century c.e.. Today they may still be found among a few primitive backwaters and isolated clades in the Sol System, mostly as ceremonial-aesthetic accessories, and among historical recreationists.

Category: Philosophy Identity Theory, Archailect

Doctrine that an archailect's avatars or epiphanies to lower toposophics represent a true and authentic (if scaled down) expression of the archailect.
Contrast with Instrumentalism.

Category: Society ideology

the body of ideas reflecting the social needs and aspirations of an individual, group, class, clade, or culture.

Category: Memetics ideosphere

The realm of memetic evolution, as the biosphere is the realm of biological evolution. The entire memetic ecology. The health of an ideosphere can be measured by its memetic diversity.

Category: Popular Culture Idiot Loci (aka IL or "ill")

A term often used by Negentropic clade members to differentiate their (superior, in their eyes) matter compiler system known as Genius Loci versus other clades.

Usage - "I can't get the G. L. to 'fact me that shivverskate. You gotta tell me where that ill is, zar!!!"

Category: Psychology idiot savant

A person (whether biological or ai) who is highly skilled in a narrow task area but who lacks context and is otherwise impaired in more general areas of intelligent functioning.

The term is taken from ancient psychiatry, where it refers to a person who exhibits brilliance in one very limited domain but is underdeveloped in common sense, knowledge, and competence. Many hyperturing-grade cybernetic control systems, such as a wormhole or drive AI, are examples of an idiot savant system.

Category: Geology igneous intrusion
also called a laccolith or a plutonic formation; a geological formation in which magma is trapped beneath the surface of the Earth and pushes the rock located above it into a dome shape, with a flat base and a convex upper surface. Once the fractured sedimentary rock is eroded, the underlying magma is exposed

Category: Geology igneous rock

formed from cooling of molten rock. Some igneous rocks include granite, obsidian (volcanic glass), basalt, and andesite porphyry.
