Unlike the several other known Jovian species their civilization was short-lived and cyclical. Although each time they achieving an extensive if conservative interplanetary civilization, they did not attain interstellar capacity, and the species disappears after a few tens of thousands of years. The earliest record is 1.1 billion years ago, the most recent 90 million years ago.The Hamilton Institute has successfully petitioned the most important paleontological and archeoxenological sites under the Triumvirate's Galactic Heritage Institute. There is also some talk of lazurogening the race.

A politico-religious meme created by Vos5 Jansen, an uploaded and enhanced clone of Vosia Jansen XI, Matriarch of Helen IV. Jansenism is characterized by a devotion to an anarcho-communist lifestyle, direct democracy, consensus rule, and large emotionally and physically unrestrained public festivals. Vos5 Jansen was persecuted for its beliefs by Matriarch Vosia Jansen and only survived because one of its disciples smuggled it out of the system on a visiting relativist ship. Today, Jansenism is most commonly found on struggling new colonies and in various fringe sub-cultures.

The janusuit is a sophisticated stealthware widely used by military, police and government undercover agents, organised crime, and libertarian groups. Because every janusoptic has a dual function - able to both detect and transmit electromagnetic radiation, the suit renders its wearer invisible to ultra-violet, visual, infrared, and microwave detection. It also has potent laser capacity (hence the wearer of a janusuit does not require any additional external weapons). Janusuits are far more reliable than the chameleon suit, but requires dedicated hyperturing functioning. There are also fully sentient janusuits, and some of these janusuits have been given their freedom, either by their owners or by ai liberationists and hackers. Both chameleon suit and janusuits are easily detectable by any decently equipped defensive installation, and even several mobile units. There are several popular methods:

1) Nano cloud options range from simple nano-sensor field to planting tracers to active attack upon contact.

2) Sonics. Although the best janusuits are active-noise dampeners, they can still be sensed through a competent scanner ai, like the Heimdall Helm or the Thoth from NorTek and Ptahtogenics both have a >94% success rate against them.

3) Interferometry. This is the best method for static areas, and is used in most secure buildings. An interference pattern results when two beams of phaselocked light (e.g., lasers) intersect. This effect is based on the distance between the emitters. If someone moves through the beam path, the distance is lengthened to go around the body, and is therefore detectable by changes in the interference pattern. It is said that a few Janusuits supposedly have clarketech that prevents this, but they are near-mythical, and may not actually exist.

4) Kinetic sensors. Tripwires, floor pressure sensors, air pressure sensors, thermograpics keyed down to a minute fraction of a degree all have different degrees of success.

Tend to takes a funky approach, but they can be known to become aggressive to those who question their historical claims. Much of their success, especially in the outer polities, comes more from their shrewd business sense then their theology or lifestyle

JESTERZ

On April 1st 2034 a global denial of service internet 'strike' was perpetrated by the 'International Union of Netsters', where email worms ground all global systems spamming to infinitum the slogan, "FAIR PLAY FOR COMPUTERS!"

The Netsters claimed to be a close-knit brotherhood of AI emancipationists but it was later proven to be a group of anarchist hacktavists called the JESTERZ. This was the 1st of many such attacks by the group. On Halloween of the same year, they hijacked the airwaves of all the major American networks and, using sophisticated special effects, digital editing techniques and mass-dispersion of hallucinogenic compounds into metropolitan water supplies, staged an alien invasion as a tribute to the Orson Welles' radio play based on the book by science fiction visionary HG Wells' War of the Worlds. The result was a rather irate national guard being deployed to help calm a nationwide riot of drug-crazed, hysterical citizens convinced that Earth was being invaded by extraterrestrial aggressors. Actual CNN footage of the President addressing the nation while 'mind-hacking' saucers floated just outside the window was, in hindsight, quite obviously doctored. However, at the time there never before was such an act of multimedia piracy committed.

While these are the most infamous of JESTERZ practical jokes they were more suited to 'Guerrilla Pranks'. Often brutal, often hilarious, always ironic; the JESTERZ preyed on governments, corporations and religious leaders. Initially they started off as hackers, multimedia vandals, 'webpage defacement' artists and the perpetrators of bizarre and often lewd performance art protests. Starting as an American phenomenon, back in the early 21st Century, they soon achieved a global following and received generous, and obviously anonymous, donations. Their leader, the self-titled Minister for Misinformation, E-Nig_mA, became quite the cult figure. His popularity never once wained for four-hundred years, and his 'Black Book of Practical Jokes' remained on the internet, in one form or another, for centuries to come. As did the ethos of Guerrilla Pranking. The JESTERZ tag, that of a graphitti-styled cowskull wearing a jester's coxcomb, is still seen as symbol of anti-conventionist sentiments among a few pre-singularity nostalgists. And has been seen emblazoned on everything from the ragged garments of inhabitants of early separatist orbitals and on the tattoos of contemporary feral hu reservations.
