Category: Religion Peitho Buddhism

Neobuddhism developed by the Peitho school of Povenmire habitat, Rosselia (Sophic League) in 8700.s. According to Peitho doctrine, the physical world is actually a hell realm of the true world. The graves of the exemplary dead are sacred places since they have a connection to the true world.

Category: biology pelagic

of, pertaining to, or living in the open ocean of a Gaian Type planet or large habitat, either at the surface or at intermediate depths.

Category: Planetology Pelagic Subtype

Pelagic SubtypeGaian Type planet. Water covers 85 to 99% of the surface. Oceanic climate varies. Land life, if advanced, may be stunted due to a restriction of terrestrial biomes.

Category: Planetology PelaVenusian Subtype

PelaVenusian SubtypeVenusian Type planet. Typically these are massive terrestrial worlds that have accrued a typically Venusian atmosphere. But they also have so much water that they cannot lose it over their geological life times. Hydrosphere coverage is typically one hundred percent. Geologic activity varies. most massive worlds develop thick crusts, diminishing volcanic activity in the short term. Atmospherically, the greenhouse effect is present, but somewhat mitigated due to the global ocean. Life is typically present, but rarely more advanced than primitive microbial forms.

Category: Weapon pencil missile
First developed during the early interplanetary period, this precursor of the knife missile was (and in some more isolated areas still is) a popular drone weapon: generally a small missile with high manoeuvrability used mainly on small hard targets like other drones or to threaten humans. They have a shaped charge sending tungsten shrapnel into the interior of the target, intended mostly to damage electronics and servos. Since they are so small, portable launchers can carry tens of missiles. Because they have only limited ai and do not require advanced nanotech, pencil missiles are preferred by paranoid and ludd groups

Category: Society Perceptions

the common name for a type of reality show usually shown on grey or black-legality stations.

It involves cracking a target's augmentation safeguards and 'riding along' during a normal day. Of course, only the most interesting 'normal days' make it to the actual programs, save those programs which focus on specific fetishistic audiences.

There are also 'Actions', a more full-sensory recording rather than just the typical optical/audio track available through a 'perceptions' show. And, for the truely voyeuristic, there're the "Concepts" shows, which tap into the subject's pre-existing neural augmentation to reconstruct (sometimes with artistic embellishment) a subject's thought processes. A nice sideline of the 'Concepts' show deals with blackmail, espionage, and the like.

Moral of the story, kiddies - keep your augments upgraded and offline, unless you don't mind risking such exposure! A good filtration regime to trap rogue broadcast/recording nanobots is also de rigour for those living in polities with lax restrictions on such devices. And inductance systems in headrests, hairdressers' gear, dental apparati, etc also needs be watched for.

Category: World Pereira

Cygnus Sector, Outer Volumes, system, former capital of the Biovirate, conquered by the Keter Dominion following the Keterist-Biovirate war, attacked and sterilised by rogue bio-Autowars, currently lightly populated by a number of disparate clades.

Category: Religion Perennial Library

Any of a number of libraries of perennial memes that is used (especially by Universalists) to interpret or decode higher toposophic mysticism. Critics say that rather than elucidating the S>1 teachings such a methodology imposes a baseline procrustianism on them

Category: Religion Perennial Philosophy, Perennialism, Universalism

a spiritual or mystical truth or meme-cluster that is said to be invariant regardless of culture, memeticity, or toposophic. For example - "abide in the Center" "strive through non-striving" The term dates back to the hu philosopher and mathematician Leibnitz of Old Earth

Category: ReligionPerennialist

Another name for Universalist

Category: Art perfect art

Category: Xenosophont The Perfect Mirror

Alien artifact discovered on the fifth moon of the gas giant T'tul in the Eta Carina Rush.

The artifact is a cube approximately 3m on a side. Employing a mechanism that has so far defied analysis the surface of the Mirror reflects all forms of kinetic, thermal, and electromagnetic energy that come into contact with it exactly back to their source instantaneously and with perfect efficiency. This results in some very strange effects and incidentally makes the artifact nearly indestructible.

It is theorized that the mirror employs some form of Planck or perhaps even subplanck tech. The purpose of the mirror is unknown but based on tests of rock samples taken from underneath it, the artifact is at least 3 billion years old.

Category: Transapients Perfect Philosomorpher

a mid-toposophic occupation/hobby/lifestyle, incomprehensible and untranslatable to lower sophonts

The sapient term "Perfect Philosomorpher" , first used by transapient watcher Jigoram Cyrom in 8167, refers to what superficially appears to be the incorporation of elements of Perfect Art and Philosomorphism. Although this was later found not to be the case, the term stuck, and is now used even by the Proxavs of "Perfect Philosomorphers" themselves

.

Category: Occupation Performance criminal
In many of the clades of the inner sphere, it is exceedingly difficult to commit a crime. Angelnetting and ubiquitous memetic engineering prevent most sophonts from considering crime. Performance criminals are those either designed by the local powers to rebel (and thus present a spectacular moral play), or those who attempt to inculcate a resistance to the powers' memetic sophistry. They are quite rare, and usually doomed.

Category: Astronomy perigee

For an object orbiting the Earth (or any planet), the perigee is the point in each orbit which is closest to the primary. The perigee generally varies a small amount from orbit to orbit. The closest perigee is called the proxigee.

Category: Astronomy perihelion

The perihelion is a planet or comet's closest approach to the sun or star it is orbiting.

middle regions solar system, originally claimed by the Taurus Nexus, visited by Gorg as part of a a long-range relativist colonisation venture. Captured by the Dominion following the breakup of the Nexus, in turn captured by Metasoft drones during the Version War, currently a Metasoft system. There is a monument and museum dedicated to the tragic story of Kibfrey and Gorg, and the system is part of the Kibfrey and Gorg Pilgrammage circuit.

Category: Geology period

In geology, originally the basic unit of geological time in which a single type of rock system is formed.

As later used, any intermediate period of geological and biological history of a Terrestrial Class planet, lasting tens of millions of years. Periods are grouped into eras, and divided into epoches. Periods are only relevant to that planet the rocks of which they pertain to.

Category: Miscellaneous periodic
[1] change or motion that goes through a finite number of regions, states, or actions, returns to a previous state, and repeats the same fixed pattern indefinitely.

[2] a resonance, octave, or repeated series (e.g. the periodic table)

Category: Chemistry periodic table

An arrangement of the chemical elements according to increasing atomic number that shows relationships between element properties.

Category: Cultures and subcultures Peripathetics

Neo-nomad artificial culture developed in the early 4200's. Peripathetics believed nomadism was the ideal lifestyle, and developed mobile houses and industries to allow them to roam freely. A break occured early between the less technological side, which eventually integrated with various anthropist, bioist or luddist movements, and the pro-technological side. The pro-techs came to join the MPA, forming the mobile polity Kre Transit.

Category: Economics periphery region

astrographic, planetary, orbital, or other areas on the outskirts of key economic activity.

Category: Geography permafrost

Category: History and Timeline Permian period

The final period of the Paleozoic era.

Lasting from 280 to 245 million years ago, this was Also known as the beginning of the Age of Reptiles. Pangea took its final shape, the great coal forests dissapeared, the climate became more arid, and reptiles suplanted amphibians, gymosperms took over from pteridophytes, and more modern forms of insects apperaed. The period ended with the largest natural mass extinction on Earth since the evolution of higher life-forms, and was followed by the Mesozoic Era.

During the late federation and consolidation periods a number of Permian parks and biospheres and terrainia were established and stocked with lazurogenic biota.

Category: Philosophy Perpetualism

philosophy developed by Academician Athol Kamani on the Dominion world of Mithras during the late Empires period

(about 200 years after the Second Interstellar Empires war), claiming that archailect cultures tend to be perpetual and effectively immortal (lasting as long as the archailect eirself). Perpetualism became a popular historical interpretation during the SecFed era, especially in Dominion and, to a lesser extent, Negentropist worlds. Its reputation was seriously damaged by events of the Version War, which disproved several of its theses (one being that a major interstellar war was not possible in a archailect mediated civilisation). However, following the reconstruction period and with the rise of the ComEmp a number of newer versions of Perpetualism developed. Most of these were forms of "weak Perpetualism" (the most popular being Ngian Perpetualism - which was developed by the Ngist School of Perpetualists on Latimer Habitat), as opposed to the "strong Perpetualism" of Kamani. During the Period of Fragmentation there was a sort of ideological conflict (a few times heating up to a memetic war on some worlds) between Ngian Perpetualism and Sabinian Kalyptism, the former indicating a more or less stable civilisation, the latter predicting a coolapse of the established order.

Different schools of Perpetualism are very interested in xenopaleological research, trying to find out whether extinct aliens had archailects.

Category: Region Perseus Arm

the immediately rimward spiral arm of our galaxy. The only galactic arm other than the local/orion arm that has been colonised by terragens. It is currently under the control of the Princes.

Category: Region The Perseus Rift

colloquial term for the volume between the Orion and Perseus arms, a vast and ill-defined volume rimwards of the Solar Dominion and Metasoft.

The Perseus Rift has always been a remote and troublesome region for the inner powers, and after the Version War a number of independent mainly ex-Dominion interstellar powers have emerged. The politics of the region is complex, not unlike the Disarchy outside the NoCoZo-Negentropic border. In general, it is a playground for minor powers and clades resisting Dominion expansionism and emigrant groups from the Inner Sphere.

The colonisation of the Perseus Arm continues despite the Rift, mainly through a few long-range wormholes left from before the Version War. The threat from the Amalgamation has led to increased pressure on the Rift powers to support the PADO (Perseus Arm Defence Organisation), but negotiations and even contact remains slow.

Some of the main powers of the region are The Restored Ambi Limis, 1513, the Celerin Volume, the Ulysses Network, the Hyperionites, The Blackbody Cluster, and Sweetlight

Category: Law person

A person is an entity given rights. A legal person is an entity recognized by the law, usually identical with the person. see also Copy Rights

Category: Pathological AI Perversities

A malignant entity, usually transapient or at the least transavant, that is insane by the standards of ordinary Terragen sophonts and is an extreme hazard to life forms that are less powerful than itself.

Some such entities are very subtle; a perversity may not be immediately evident to beings of its own or lower toposophic level except by experience or careful study. A perversity is sometimes, but not necessarily, the immediate or delayed result of a botched or misfired attempt at toposophic ascent. A perversity or may not also be considered a blight, depending in part on whether or not and to what extent it spreads and assimilates other beings.

One famous perversity which has not (as far as is known) become a spreading blight is the transapient entity Verifex, responsible for a cataclysmic series of artificial supernovae known as the Gehenna event.

Now a major pilgramage site for a number of Anthropist clades, tolerated by the locals only because of the tourist economy.

Category: Planetology Pet Rock

Slang term for a world, terrestrial or otherwise that has had its surface structure modified by a Power or archai, apparently for the esthetic enjoyment of the creating entity.

Apparently created for reasons similar to why some terragens practice pottery or sculpture. Occasionally found in systems that host archailect primary computing nodes and tools.

Some pet rocks result from interacting MPA and Keter cultures, holding exhibitions of von Neumann art in otherwise unnused systems.

Category: Alife petbooks

Interactive document collections equipped with affective computing, making them develop a bond with the owner.

Originally developed as a marketing trick to save the flagging ebook market during the late Information Era by EBK Solutions, but later regularly revived in new forms. These include the fad in organic petbooks of the First Federation and the fake stray petbooks (intended to seek out and be saved by compassionate people) spread by Sophic missionaries in the 8900's. Petbooks are somewhat related to advanced madverts, and various hybrids exist. The most well known and feared is the feral libraries of the northern plains of Nova, where large swarms of petbooks infected with madverts search for food and customers.

Category: Culture or Subculture Peterpan

interplanetary age to recent - Originally hu baseline or nearbaseline (later expanded to include any biont) who uses medical nano to remain perpetually at the physiological development of a prepubuscent

(8 to 10 is the most popular range, but some have fixed themselves as young as 2 or 3). There is an attempt to regress the personality to the equivalent age, but this has proved somewhat more difficult or in some cases impractical, and many low grade peterpans are a bizarre psychological combination of young child and adult. The most respected peterpans however are those that can retain or return to the most authentic childhood psychological state. These usually are accompanied by bot, vec, aioid, or biont minders who handle the day to day needs of their young charges. The oldest living peterpan, Tommy Ries, was born in 346 a.t. , had himself petered in 389, survived the Nanoswarms, Version War, Paradigm Containment effort, and many other adventures. Most current peterpans however are no more than a few thousand years old
