Pi to Pk

Category: Physics pi-zero meson

meson with neutral electric charge

Pi-zero mesons can be produced by electron-positron collisions and can decay back into an electron-positron pair, but they are not a bound state of an electron and a positron. The electron and positron annihilate to form a virtual photon and that then decays into a quark and antiquark, which form the meson.

Category: Picotech picite, picodevice

a picoscale device or component, a picobot, a pico-replicator. any artificially constructed atom used for a specific purpose. A picodevice may be very complex with multiple subsystems (such as a picite), or simple, like a electron waveform. Contrast with nanite, femtodevice

Category: Picotech picolect

a picoscale intellect or ai, i.e. one based on picotech components and principles.

Category: Picotech picofab

, picotech fabricator, device for working with matter with subatomic precision, alchemic manufacturing

A picotech fab may be merely cubic centimeters in volume (these are extremely expensive and complicated to build, needing massive AI and ExpertSystems plus process control computers) or a fusion reaction, taking place in a fusion reactor or Deep Well Industrial Zones, to produce heavy elements by the gigaton with less efficiency and precision (talking about isotopic composition) but in large quantities with low cost and control requirements (a computronium bank on that an ES able to run a picotech fab can be executed should have no trouble with controlling either a group of fusion reactors or a deep well accretion disk).

The market is therefore divided between mobile picotech fabs in a chip factory or a goldsmiths shop on one side and large-scale fusion reactors and DWIZs where natural black holes are available or the market is large enough to pay for creating one to proide building material for megascale construction programmes (Weylforges, interstellar catapults, terraforming infrastructure or dyson spheres) on the other.

Category: Picotech Pico-nanotech

Specialised nanotech in which advanced atomic precision manipulators used at sub-atomic / quantum scale.

Historically, during the first federation period, piconanotech represented the beginning of wave-particle and field technology that was to further develop with mature Picotech. It also allowed the self-evolution of more powerful and godlike AIs than those based on standard assembler mature nanotech and even those based on photo-nanotech. However, reliability remained and remains low, due to many randomizing effect caused by quantum indeterminacy and difficulty of manipulating quantum events, this was improved as the technology developed. Reliability never exceeded that of standard hylo-nanotech (drexlerian) assemblers. Piconanotech is still used by many nanotech capable cultures and civilisations derived therefrom.

Category: Picotech picoscale

on the scale of a picometer (one trillionth of a meter)

Category: Art picosculpting

designing artistic wave functions that can be perceived by suitable probes. While not very popular among bionts, some AIs enjoy it.

Category: Picotech picotech

technology that works on the picometer scale - sculpting atoms, creating new forms of atomic and subatomic matter, interacting with quantum particles and fields

Inanimate / Inorganic

Category: Picotech crude picotech

Transmuting atomic elements in a non-precision megascale manner

For example, to cheaply create heavy elements in quantity, trigger an artificial supernova and then just (magnetically) scoop up what is needed. Only viable in areas several hundred light years from populated space. This shows the difference between macro- (or mega-)scale picotech and precision (sub-atomic scale) picotech; maximum output vs. efficiency and saving resources

Category: Transapient pidgin brain

An artificial part of a posthuman brain designed so that activity, memories and skills stored in it can easily be transferred to other pidgin brains, a "neural ligua franca".

Michael M. Butler, in Transhuman Terminology

Category: Megacorp Pi Hermes
Among the more interesting organisations, the original Pi Hermes began during the early Federation period as a detective agency with an unique concept: they recorded virch immersives based on their cases, exciting real-life documentaries about the work of investigators, in which the vircher actually became the detective working on a real (not a fictional or simulated) case as it happens. So successful was this concept that every so often a Pi Hermes media clone is established. At the present stardate there are several thousand pihermes throughout the Inner Sphere (mostly on NoCoZo worlds)

Category: Infotech pimple socket

a microscopic interface socket by which a biont can use cyberware (e.g. DNI) without appearing like a "buttonhead". The name cames from the fact that the socket itself is surrounded by a small bump or pimple that allows the user to find it even without augmentations

Category: Society pink goo

Originally humans unmodified (or only slightly tweaked) baseline H. s. Sapiens), later any terragen bionts (mostly but not necessarily hominid).

"Pink Goo to refer to Old Testament apes who see their purpose as being fruitful and multiplying, filling up of the cosmos with lots more such apes, unmodified."

The term "pink" refers to the fact that the inside of the body is generally a reddish color (because of blood and so on). It is also a facetious reference to "those cuddly S<1 hu"

originally Eric Watt Forste, in Transhuman Terminology, modified by M. Alan Kazlev

Category: Spacecraft Pioneer 10

Unmanned spacecraft launched from Old Earth on 02 Mar 1972, the first human built spacecraft to travel beyond the Solar Asteroid Belt

Category: Region Pismis 4 cluster

Locally called the Silver Belt. Diverse region home to a number of non-affiliated polities, clades and phyles. The Cluster consists of more than 45 M-class red dwarf main sequence stars in the midst of a faint but extensive Gum nebulosity complex. The Pismis 4 worlds have not formed any political union, but the Jean Te Uahlg Aestheticism has for all practical purposes unified them.

Category: Ship Pitch Star Drive

Reactionless drive field propulsion in which a localized slope in scalar potential is induced across the vehicle which creates forces on the vehicle, propelling it forward. In contrast to the diametric drive, this slope can be created without the presence of a pair of point sources.
