Category: Society T-Groups

Transcendence Support Groups - Various types of organizations, some religious or spiritual, some wholly materialistic, formed with the goal of their members achieving ascension to a higher toposophic level.

T-Groups work to coordinate and organize the mental and physical resources of their members to accelerate the process of mental and physical enhancement that can eventually lead to transcension to a higher level.

Category: Astronomy T Tauri star

prototype for a class of very young stars, still in the process of gravitational contraction.

They constitute a type of variable star, often shedding mass, still forming and contracting; and yet to evolve to reach the main sequence. On a Hertzsprung-Russell Diagram, they plot above the main sequence.

T Tauri stars are mostly between 105 and 108 years in age; of low mass (0.5 to 3.0 M sol); surrounded by hot, dense envelopes; and losing mass via stellar winds with typical velocity of around 100 km/s.

Category: Physics tachyon

subatomic FTL particle possessing irrational mass.

Although the existence of tachyons was shown as long ago the interplanetary age, there is no way for them to interact with normal matter. This has not stopped a huge amount of mostly baseline folklore concerning archai monopolies on "tachyon technology" and the like, or petabytes of speculation and patents on unworkable and ridiculous "tachyon drives"

Category: Microtech tablet

Standard information and early interplanetary age baseline-friendly microtech comm, text and Net interface device

In shape a small box approximately 5 by 7 by 0.1 cm. One side is a high resolution flat panel display. On the screen is an alphanumeric pictographic keypad and a series of pictographic 'buttons' representing different functions. Various functions include pager, cell phone, calculator, PDA, computer, and local net interface. In its base mode the unit acts as both a pager and a cell phone for incoming calls/messages. Touch the appropriate icon and it will act accordingly for outgoing pages or cell phone calls. So far we have nothing really different than some of the 'combo' electronics on the market today. Now things get fun.

Touch the PDA icon and the unit expands in two dimensions while getting thinner in the third until it is the size/shape of a PDA. A portion of the unit separates and pops up at one end where it can be removed and used as a stylus. The display screen changes to reflect PDA functions in full colour, hi-res 3D.

Touch the computer icon and the unit gets even larger and thinner until it is no thicker than heavy bond paper. A graphic line bisects the unit. Run your finger along the line and the unit becomes flexible along the line. One side of the line becomes a graphic computer keyboard and the other becomes a hi-res, full colour display. Clip a data cable or transmitter anywhere along the edge of the unit and it can communicate with remote devices or the web using wireless tech or the cable. Accessories can clip anywhere along the edge of the unit in the same manner.

Category: Physics tachyon

Theoretical particles that move at superluminal velocity.

In contrast to normal matter, tachyons need energy to slow down. Because they likewise require infinite energy to reach the speed of light, it is not possible for them to interact with normal matter.

Category: Ship Tachyon Drive

Fantasy device that enables a vessel accelerate very quickly to relativistic velocity. Because tachyons cannot interact with normal matter, a Tachyon Drive cannot work in practice

Category: Virch tactile virtualism

Category: Physics tadyon

Normal matter, particles that move at subluminal velocity.

In contrast to tachyons, ordinary matter needs energy to accelerate. Because it requires infinite energy to reach the speed of light, it is not possible for it to interact with tachyons.

Category: Religion Tahmetianity, The Tahmetian Crusades
Tahmetianity is considered by many to be a scam -- it was founded by the appearance of the same "prophet" at the same time on five different worlds, a miracle confirmed years later (relativistic travel only, and in this pre-wormhole period only light-speed messages could be sent at the time). This "miracle" caused a mass movement, a religion that gained the adherence of billions of people and seriously weakened the remnants of old-line Christianity and Islam (the "prophet" claimed to be the messenger of Jehovah/Allah). On several worlds the Tahmetian-controlled governments persecuted and even massacred believers in other types of religions, including Etodists, Undyoists, Venpredessi (a movement of ancestor-worshippers), various neopagans and even Tahmetian heretic groups. The Undyoists claimed that Tahmetianity was an elaborate scam, its founders using some secret FTL technology to organize it and later claim power. (According to the Undyoists the "prophet" was five clones designed to look similar, based on an old sequence from the Human Genome Diversity project of 2016.

The Tahmetian religion was thoroughly discredited by the efforts of Undyoist refugees in outlying worlds (and other reports of atrocities) and eventually the governments of the five worlds in question fell into disunion, attacking each other. One of the prophets was murdered by an antitheist resistance movement only to reappear alive a week later. The influence of AIs on the whole incident is debated. There are still hardcore followers of the faith, who remain very antithetical and hostile to Undyoists.

Category: Toposophy TAID (Toposophic Ascension Identity Disassociation)

When a sophont ascends to a higher toposophic level, great stress is put on the mind. When this stress is too great, it can have a very negative impact on the ascending mind. Most of the time, this results in a failure in the ascension process, usually leading to the destruction of the mind. However, in some very, very rare cases (1 in 100,000,000), the being ascends, but refuses to accept its new existence. The higher toposophic mind then creates as accurate a model of its pre-ascended mind as it can, and uses that model to interact with its environment. This model may or may not accurately mimic the pre-ascended sophont mind. In the few recorded cases of TAID to date, those models that have deviated from the  pre-ascended mind have deviated wildly - Such as a nearbaseline male creating a mental model of a female tigersplice rianth after the ascension process.

It is important to note that in cases of TAID, ascension was "successful". Underneath the mental model the sophont uses to interact with its environment resides the ascended mind. However, the model has no idea that it is anything more than what it appears to be, and the ascended mind will do all it can to maintain the illusion.

More than 80% of the cases of TAID have been self-correcting over time, although some residual personality alterations have been noticed. Over time, the ascended mind becomes accustomed to its new state and has less use for the defensive mechanism of the mental model. There is no "typical" estimate on the duration of TAID. It varies from individual to individual, and can last anywhere from days to centuries.

TAID is most commonly noticed among sapients ascending to S:1 or S:2.  It may be just as common among the higher toposophics, but would be much less likely to be noticed by normal sapients.

In many of the cases of TAID, the created sapient model the newly ascended mind is often embodied as a "leftbehind". This usually happens when the model is an accurate portrayal of the ascended being's pre-ascended mind.

The others were Truth-Santaya Networks, Terranova Foundation, K4H, and SecureSpace. In the colonies they were very often a law unto themselves. They eventually merged to become the NoCoZo.

Category: World Tanaka Cluster

During the post-ComEmp period a prosperous middle regions non-aligned assembly of worlds. In 9545 the AI ruling the Tanaka Cluster apparently decided to end its existence, and kills all life and technology down to the viral/bit level. Over a hundred planets remained apparently untouched but lifeless. Although there have been some minor attempts at recolonization, mostly by thrill-seeker and novelty tour start-ups, the system remains for the most part empty. Rumours that a virulent picotech trojan remains in the area ready to snare the unwary can safely be dismissed, although the tour entrepreneurs tend to play up the story for scare value.

Popular and diverse hedonics techniques, based on use of the body and pleasure as a path to transcendence; a biological art and science of attaining ecstasy through somatic and especially sexual disciplines.

Originally Old Earth religious treatises teaching mystical and magical formulae for the attainment of magical powers, and for the worship of the gods; treating of the evolution of the universe and its destruction; the adoration of the divinities; the attainment of desired objects, or superhuman faculties; and methods of union (usually given as four) with the supreme divinity by contemplative meditation. Began in early medieval Hindu (mostly composed in the form of dialogues between Siva and his divine consort or sakti Durga, who is worshipped as a personified female power.), Buddhist, and Jain antinomianalism, but during the information age a Western pop-Tantra (concerned with sexual lifestyle, essentially early hedonics) became very popular. Further developments occurred during the interplanetary age, especially among the Genetekkers, who were keen to incorporate tantric and taoist techniques. Tantric ideas were thus conveyed to New L4, Penglai, and Dionysos, and formed an important element of the Dionysan Erotocracy. Major branches of tantra today include biotantra, cybertantra, moldatantra, classical tantra, potantra, transtantra, kjatantra, genetantra, and more

Category: Economics Targeted Sales

A technique that dates back to early information age Old Earth, this takes a large number of preference questions answered by a target

(often the 'answers' are garnered through observation via angelnet or other public security feature, occasionally as a secondary feature of local advertising and the like) to generate a 'must have' item or list of items for a specific being. This is often used by large-ticket manufacturers, as it is rather costly for bulk marketing.
John B (inspired by Dr William Sims Bainbridge's work on 'personality capture')

Category: Economics tariff

A system of duties or prices imposed by a polity on imported or exported goods. Tariff regulation varies widely, from non-existent (much of the NoCoZo) to high (many of the more centralized lower toposophic or baseline polities)
