category: Government Trade Federation
Under this system of government, each member polity rules itself and has its own laws, but all polities have signed a trade agreement. This agreement promises not only free trade between all the member polities but also serves as a mutual peace treaty. The different polities avoid interfering with each other's internal affairs. In some cases, if one polity is attacked, the others will join it to fight the common enemy.

Trade federations are delicate and easily upset, since each member is in the federation for a profit. If a planet or a group of planets decides it can do better on its own or with another group, it may pull out of the federation. An example of a trade federation was the European Common Market of Information Age Earth, and the early Non Coercive Zone of the late First Federation period.

Language used by several different polities or clades (each with their own separate language) when engaging in trade or other commercial interaction. Often a trade language may supersede local languages for many purposes, or donate loan words, lexemes or phrases to those languages. Also used to describe various commercial languages used by NoCoZo, Cygexpa and Fomalhaut trading companies.

Category: Xenosophont Transcendent Burn-out Theory

Theory that states that the reason for the rarity of other intelligent races and the lack of an ancient universe spanning civilization is that as a civilization spreads across the stars and increases its population, the number of transcensions it experiences increases geometrically. With the spread of a civilization across the stars and the consequent increase in intra-civilization communications, knowledge and expertise, the paths to transcendence to SI:1 and higher levels and the number of safe techniques and methods to achieve these levels increases as a function of the number of communicating sites. Eventually, virtually all parts of the civilization have transcended to a level that ceases to have any detectable interaction with the observable universe or else have gone extinct. Proponents of this theory point out that it took tens of thousands of years for terragens to achieve the first singularity level on a single world, but in the next few thousand years they achieved some 15 or more additional levels in thousands of locations.

Category: Society transcension alert
Given the huge population of the terragen bubble and the fact that ascensions and transcensions are moderately common and have been going on for thousands of years, it seems reasonable that many civilization has developed some fairly reliable methods for predicting the onset of one of these events. Sort of like predicting the weather on the surface of a Garden World (and a large transcendence probably does share some conceptual characteristics with a force of nature to those watching from outside at a lower S level). Sentients in the area who didn't want to risk being sucked in or possibly harmed by the event would be warned to leave the area exercise caution, or possibly to take advantage of newly opened worlds or habitats left behind. The following is a typical transmission:

WARNING***WARNING***WARNING***WARNING***WARNING***WARNING***WARNING
This is a transcension alert! In the last three kiloseconds computational and communications activity in the Caligiri Union orbital band 3 has increased by six orders of magnitude with no indication of slowing. Memetic analysis of the band reveals strong TRHN leanings peaking in a public cluster vote some one hundred kiloseconds ago, the results of which are unknown at this time. All external communications from the band have ceased except for automatic nav and commlink beacons. Telescopic scanning shows marked change within the physical layer components of the band with the appearance of several structures whose design appears with consistent with S4, repeat S4 level tech. All sentients within 10 light-minutes of orbital band 3 are advised to vacate the area immediately. Repeat all sentients within 10 light-minutes of band 3 are advised to evacuate immediately.

Category: nanotech Transcension machine

Transcension machine: banned in some polities and commonly confused with some toposophic transcension device by the lay ones, the transcension machine is a nanotech pill used by those who got tired of the mundane life to transcend to a spiritual plane, to another existence, or simply die.

It has two parallel actions, after the nanomachines activate. One is painlessly deactivates body functions slowly. The other is to induce mind into a state of awake-dreaming, bringing good sensations to the euthanasing being. This state won't though, affect sensory system of the being in any way other than the natural activity cease caused by the device.

More modern versions have optimized the process in a way so it can be fully reversed even when more than 50% has been proceeded, through a mental command of the pill user.

Category: Profession Transcension prediction
Given the huge population of the civilized galaxy, and the fact that ascensions and transcensions are moderately common and have been going on for thousands of years, it is not unsurprising that many polities and civilizations have developed some fairly reliable methods for predicting the onset of one of these events. Often this is comparable to pre- and post-singularity efforts at predicting the weather (and a large transcendence event does indeed share some conceptual characteristics with a force of nature to those watching from outside at a lower S level).

This is an exciting job, especially for an idealistic nearbaseline (of course the whole thing could be automated, but sometimes nearbaselines are used because other nearbaselines feel more comfortable if the news comes from a biont rather than an expert system) all e has to do is watch the displays and when the local aioid or dedicating hyperturing tells em something is about to happen, e yells "hot dawg! This is gonna be a big 'un all right! Ooh yeah!"

Category: Society Transcension, sociology and social impacts of
While sociology has become such a well understood science (for most kinds of societies, there are always surprises... "Oh, we thought they were a typical forward-oriented metapraxtic hierarchy, we had no idea they were ortopraxtic and would pervert like that") that usually transcendence can be predicted well. Generally, the larger the system, the slower the transition - individuals can transcend very quickly, small groups (like companies) fast, parts of societies at a reasonable rate while entire cultures take their while. A bit like we today are getting closer to predicting which countries are likely to have a civil war given certain sociological indexes.

An example of this are forensic eschatologists, people going through the remains after a transcension and analyzing exactly what happened and what to do about it. I guess the above guys are the less well respected amateur eschatologists.

Category: Toposophy Transcension Virus

ai or alife or nano-vector viruses that require transcensions to replicate.

Typically it is attracted to the conditions that take place right as a transcension or ascension is imminent and than infiltrates itself into the local computer net and waits. As the transcension begins it corrupts a tiny portion of the exponentially increasing computer power and/or manufacturing base to cause it to make multiple copies of the virus. The level of corruption is tiny and very well hidden to avoid an immune response, but during a major change in toposophic level even a tiny diversion of resources can result in huge benefits for the interloper.

There are two basic types that are most predominant - the transcension virus that only wants to feed on the extra amount of energy, petaflops etc given off, but doesn't itself change, and the virus that itself is transcended (a sort of ready made hypermutational evolutionary burst)

both viruses are fairly uncommon, for different reasons. The parasite virus has to cope with the fact that the transcension might have unpredictable effects - e.g. all nonessential pieces of code within the RAMsphere might automatically be erased. And the hyperevolutionary virus may find in its new form it doesn't want to be a virus at all!

One could say that ecologically transcension viruses occupy a "marginal niche" in the local datasphere. In spite of this, the number of transcensions galaxy-wide at any one time are enough to guarantee the survival and prorogation of a number of various forms of transcension virus

Category: Megacorp Transfinity
Nanofacturing subsidiary to Vollmark, an interplanetary era home microtronics corporation (2402-2494). Transfinity products became very widespread especially on Earth, where their matter compilers, microrepair systems and genius cleaning fluids became market leaders during the late 2400's. While very popular, Transfinity had a reputation for sloppy security assurance and their products were several times hacked or subverted. Due to their ubiquity, the consequences were far more serious than nanohacks against competing products, and as the situation on Earth worsened many accused the company of criminal negligence. In a landmark case in 2493 the Earth Trade Association and UN Nanodefence Council ordered the closing of the otherwise successful corporation. Although nanohistorians have discounted the theory that it was the Transfinity Level 6 Microrepair Swarm (Goliath) that was the true origin of the 2500 nanoswarm, it remains certain that some of the badly secured nanosystems became integrated in co-opting swarms.

Category: Toposophy Translogic

'Translogic' is the most common term baselines have used since approximately 1,000 AT when it became evident that the S> intellects were using something other than standard logic. It is believed by nearbaseline 'transapient observers' and mathematical translators that 'translogic' may be related to logic as quantum mechanics is related to Newtonian mechanics, or non-Euclidean geometry relates to Euclidean geometry.

There is little doubt among the great majority of observers that translogic is at least as effective as logic, and the majority also seems to indicate that translogic is quite a bit more efficient than logic. Baseline supremacists often use 'translogic' as a derogatory term - a good cultural indicator as many sociological observers have reported.

It is quite likely, due to the large number of disparate reports of S> interaction and attempts at teaching, that translogic is actually multiple different skills and/or conceptual sets, some of which appear to be mutually exclusive. However, no nearbaseline has (per S> indication) yet proven capable of handling translogic 'formulae'

Category: Linguistics and Languages Translation and Language Cladization
Instead of unity and a single tongue, there was a great cladization of languages during the first federation era. This is because the different habitats got together and could hardly understand each other, and AI was now so cheap that everybody could afford translator devices. So instead of forcing linguistic convergence (although some did their best to make a fedspeak), a lot of clades diverged further protected from outside influences in cocoons of translation.

Category: Virch Translation Metamorphosis

A problem which can arise when virch entities move from one virch environment to another is that there are beings which will be so altered by the translation that they are effectively utterly different beings in the two different virches.

For example, the translation of a three-dimensional entity into a two-dimensional Flatland virch. This process is, in general, known as Translation Metamorphosis.

In general Translation Metamorphosis is a risk that the entity who chooses to make that change takes; most entities consider that, as long as they know the risk is there in advance so they have an informed choice, then that's their look-out. Many virch entities do make copies of their old selves before attempting such a translation, though, just to be on the safe side...

Category: Infotech Transmissions Viruses; TV's

Information Age VR-OS viruses, originating in the Middle East.

Perhaps the most notorious of all of these was BUZZWAVE. BUZZWAVE, an Israeli TV, was initially used during the Sandstorm conflict against US soldiers. Appearing on their aural transmissions as apparent noise that caused severe headaches, dizziness and slothfulness after 10-15 minutes. First used by catching and jamming the signal of a Palestinian political transmission all loudspeakers, TV's etc carrying signal. Thousands felt physically, and often quite violently, sick as they watched and listened to their new leader air his views and new policies. While those in the room all felt drowsy and gradually fell asleep on an international tele/netcast.

The Israelites followed this, less that two years later, with DoSkANNeN. An even more devious virus which would firstly attack the code that handles the tracking of the environment therefore gradually inducing symptoms of what were loosely referred to as 'VR Sickness.' It would also insert multiple packets of data and tag them to incoming packets. So as to spam the users mind with rapid subliminal images of a psycho-destabilising nature. (These would be expertly picked to disturb even those with the strongest of constitutions. Alternating at hundreds of frames per millisecond, between images of serene utopian beauty and pure, depraved, inhuman visual atrocities.) These images would began to come faster and harder and would become interpolated with a sharp strobing effect causing nausea, migraine, seizures, epileptic attacks, brain damage and even death. Meanwhile their ears would have been subjected to a more aggressive relative of the BUZZWAVE family. SARPA Systems, a semi-state contractor for the US military, employed these techniques to develop their 'Spazmotrons', or portable neural disruption devices.

Like DoSers, nukerz, trojans, and viruses, TV's have been used for centuries by both criminals and security professionals who wish to neutralize the data assets of their enemies. Much of these are based on the principals that were first tested during the Sandstorm by both the Israelis, Palestinians, and coders from both sides were snatched up by SARPA to aid the US's hand in the Saudi 'Regency Rig' of 2036.

Category: Polity Trapville

Trapville is a moderate- to high-technology world-city (World of Progress/MPA affiliated) It is a free-breeder world, with a wildly different method of population control to others faced with this problem.

Each and any public space may be trapped. The humans populating the world develop traps as their 'civic duty', everything from deadfalls to pit traps to mechanical projectiles to... you name it. The limitations are that it may be triggered by any non-sentient method desired (expert systems on up are considered 'sentient'), it must use mechanical force to cause damage, and it must be at least reasonably possible that the trap could cause casualties.

There are 'trapbots' which wander at random emplacing and replacing and altering traps throughout these public spaces. And, just to keep things interesting, any area connecting directly to a food service or waste service area is considered to be 'public'. And of course, for public health reasons, food service and waste service areas may not be located immediately adjacent to each other.

The public transport system is free, but it is public. There is a 'tax' of a minimum of one acceptable trap per month, complete with AI support in the designing of the trap - all you need is the creativity, the AI handles the physics, mechanics, and/or electronics required. No human may emplace a trap, nor may they specify an exact location, but they may limit the trap to certain terrain features or the like - "Only in dark corridors" for a tripwire onto spikes, for instance.

Unknown but suspected by most people on the planet, the whole planet is under microbot surveillance by the AI which conceptualized and built Trapworld. The AI's name is unknown, but is rumored to be an ascended Rube Goldbergbot. The surveillance is unavailable to outsiders, but portions are caught by 'lucky photographers' and makes one of the most-watched 3D programs on the planet.

The first period of the Mesozoic Era, Earth, lasting from 248 to 208 million years ago.

The land formed a single continent, called Pangaea. Most of the Triassic was ruled by the thecodont archosaurs and proto-mammalian therapsid small carnivores and large herbivores, and ichthyosaurs the dominant marine life, but during the later Triassic dinosaurs, mammals, turtles, plesiosaurs, and pterosaurs all appear. Among plants, conifer forests are common, In the seas, molluscs are the dominant invertebrates, especially Goniatite Ammonites, which are so abundant and diverse it is sometimes suggested, especially by cephalopod provolves, that the Triassic should properly be termed the "Age of Goniatites". The Triassic period ended with a minor (Class Three) mass extinction 213 mya, in which 35% of all animal families die out, allowing the dinosaurs to expand into many niches. The most important current terrestrial Triassic ecosystems that has been lazurogened is Triassic Park, a large nature reserve on Nova Terra's single Pangea-like continent. However for sheer scope and biological diversity one cannot go past the Utopia Sphere world of Cephalotopia, which features both provolved baseline, and lazurogened cephalopods of all kinds, including some 214,000 species of authentic and quasi-authentic Triassic goniatites.

9100s movement to bring together all the original "tuphz" of history, whether cloned or replicated or pozer bots, to serve as teachers and leaders of current Tuphz.

The project caused great excitement among tuphz members and sympathises throughout the Nexus, although marred by unfortunate rivalries between different Tuphz factions (in one case resulting in actual assassination). Among the historical figures (real and mythological) that were cloned, replicated, or found were several public domain Gilgameshes, Napoleans and Alexander the Greats, a replicant King Arthur, a clone of the (by then lost) original Joan of Arc pozerbot, a Chairman Mao Turingrade Bioborg (complete with Little Red Book), the John Wayne pozerbot, a Marcus Lee Clone, a visiting SI:<1 Adriana Yue Johannisdottir replicant (the pre-ascension version of Adriana Yue Oncehuman) presented by Hosoko Posthegemonic Management Network, no less that three Lady Kitsune (of Andromeda Kids fame) impersonators, a Broderik Paz personalike, and an authentic Virtual Gurl Copy who was presented as a gift by the Zooeum of Heroes.

The Tribal Gathering of Historical Tuphz was held at the Fandom Hotel, Yansoon Orbital, New Tycho, Terran Federation, over three tumultuous tendays in 9156. Unfortunately, despite a lot of goodwill, and some saucy goings on (one of the Lady Kitsunes had a hot and heavy affair with one of the public domain Napoleans, this later became the Softporn comedrama interactive "When Kitsu met Bonie") that were great for ratings (sponsors like Novamedia, GalaxyWideSophonts, and Hosoko made a killing), the various participants found as much to disagree as they did to agree, and the relationship between the Chairman Mao Turingrade Bioborg and John Wayne pozerbot was particularily acrimonious. In the end several weighty proceedings (each exceeding 500 terabytes of text and images) and a number of interactive teaching modules were produced, and the participants went their own way.
