Uberwatch

The UberWatch is a low-tech input device utilized by various semi-regressed clades throughout the known volumes. It is a bracelet or, much more commonly, a watch designed to read the positioning of a person's hand both in relation to their main body and, via neural pickups (usually non-intrusive, occasionally intrusive), the positioning of fingers, wrist, etc.

It allows for standard writing, drawing, etc, but usually without requiring a stylus or the like, instead making a 'fair copy' online either as digitization of the expected strokes, or via some form of handwriting parser. Of course, this is typically purely an input device, requiring some other device to display the data, such as a eyebrow piercing mounted HUD.

The earliest known model of this tech apparently was created around 210 AT, but there are hints of yet earlier models which have apparently not survived the years. It is a fairly bulky (approx 3" thick!) device which fits snugly around the forearm, weighing approximately 1.5 kg. Interestingly, it has a true anachronistic 'virtual keyboard' mode, in which paired UberWatches could be used to pick up the finger motions involved with using a historical device known as a 'keyboard'....

Also known as "embodied virtuality". Information and early Interplanetary Age Old Earth. Computers that are an integral, invisible part of people's lives. In some ways the opposite of virtual reality, in which the user is absorbed into the computational world. With ubiquitous computing, computers take into account the human world rather than requiring humans to enter into the computer's methods of working. Ubiquitous computing evolved into the micro-, meso- and micro/meso/nanonet based interactivity of the middle Interplanetary age and later.

Old myth that xenobionts travelling in small disc shaped craft had been visited Earth for thousands of years prior to the first Singularity.

Most ufos were believed to originate from Zeta Reticuli, although the system was colonised and no trace of ufos were found. From the First Federation period onwards, ufos were combined with whatever myth and folklore was current at the time. Ufoism is consistently unscientific and irrational, but has always remained a popular meme. One current version proposes that ufos consist of several warring races, including one in league (or identical) with the Dawn Hunters, and another opposing it. However, the so called "Galactic Council of Andromeda" school of ufo-ism teaches that ufos are part of a galactic council of enlightened clarketech equipped SI:>>1 sentients from the Andromeda Galaxy (in another version, from the Virgo Cluster) who are visiting terragens to teach them peaceful coexistence between different empires and clades

Ulysses Network

One of the major Perseus Rift volumes, a local power that has gradually developed to rival the power of the Dominion in the Rift.

It began as the Ulysses prefecture found itself isolated but with a functional wormhole nexus of their own. It began to spread, gaining trade and political importance (especially as a bridge to the Perseus Arm). Over the last millennia the Dominion has several times attempted to subdue the Network, with limited success. At present it however finds itself in a precarious position due to the nearness of the Amalgamation and the PADO.
