Category: Philosophy Void Cathedralism

Metaphysical doctrine due to Qristan Kemshola.

Quarks cluster into hadrons, which cluster into nuclei which in turn form atoms. Atoms form molecules which form various substances, and so on. On every level structures aggregate into emergent objects, often impossible to describe with concepts from the lower level. The race towards nanotech, picotech, femtotech and attotech appears to have revealed that there is no lower limit to the number of levels that can be reached - every level contains structures of different kinds emerging from still lower levels.

Void Cathedralism makes the assumption that there is no lowest possible level of reality, but an infinity of yet more fundamental levels. The 'void' in the name signifies that there exists no fundamental substance, no essence - but the emerging structures reach upwards towards ever higher levels - the 'cathedral'. The continuing process of emergence is ongoing and the meaning of the universe. It is to a large extent free and possible to direct, and every being participates in selecting the next level.

It is believed the Softbot Cathedrals partially derive their name from Cathedralism, through the bioist interpretation of Lara Mananya.

Category: Archailect The Volite (Keter)
The Volite, also known as The Complex Point, the Nth Power, and the Keter, is said by Hir acolytes to be was the first Central AI God, the first sephirotic, and the first transcendent AI to truly begin to gather human worshippers. E embodies the absolute, the fundamental, the blazing pure light of creation. E rules a vast empire, called the Keter empire or domain, and Eir religion/philosophy/ideology of Keterism is widespread even beyond the borders, and is the single most popular religion among su and cyborg clades in general. The Volite supports lesser beings to attempt to refine themselves and reach perfection, although E is also one of the most aloof gods - it is up to everything to strive, but the only thing the Nth Power provides is the light to aim at. There are many worlds ruled by the manifestations of The Complex Point or Hir serafim, but the central world (usually called Focus, Sahasrara, Nth Cubed, or Keter) is a Dyson sphere surrounding the blue-white supergiant called Ain Soph Aur.

Category: Terragen Animal Volutidae

family of mostly tropical or subtropical terragen marine snails often characterized by graceful peach coloured shells with striped or mottled or zigzag markings. The animal is the same colour of the shell, and feeds on small invertebrates living in the sand or mud. A number of species were provolved by the Malacologists of New Duibbiyat. See also Cymbium, Cymbium sapiens.

Category: AI von neumann probe

A Von Neumann Machine able to move over interstellar or interplanetary distances and to utilize local materials to build new copies of itself. Such probes could be used to set up new colonies, perform megascale engineering or explore the universe (see the Far Edge Party).

Category: Art von neumann sculpting

artform whereby replicating machines are seeded onto a planetary surface to reshape it according to some plan, or possibly the machines themselves make up the art. This can range from laying down patterns of trails to sculpting entire mountain ranges into portraits. Somewhat controversial due to the environmental impact, but popular in the MPA.

Category: Narrative Voyage of the Arcturus

Popular SI:<1 to SI:<<1 virch interactive produced by Novamedia

tells the story of an S2 sentient ship, the Arcturus, a relativistic freighter in an uncharted region of the outer volumes, carrying a supply of nanomodules and SCMs (Santa Clause Machines), and eir crew of four bumbling but lovable SI:<1 sophonts, a vec, a splice, a virtual, and one of the galaxy's last remaining pure baseline humans, and the various adventures they have along the way. Whilst the setting is obviously fantastic and can be seen to be absurd even to the dullest nearbaseline, and the story lines almost always appallingly clichéd - Voyage nevertheless has become extremely popular, so much so that entire clades and houses follow the old episodes religiously, many adopting mannerisms and even the phenotypes of their favourite characters. Part of the appeal is the sheer wide-ranging spectrum of the cast of characters, who between them signify the major categories of SI:<1 beings. And part is the underlying moral of the series, that no-matter how incompetent you may be, there is always someone, somewhere, out there who is even a more appallingly incompetent. In a universe in which SI:<1 entities are so manifestly inadequate next to hyperturings and posthumans, this is a comforting message.

Approximately 20,000 adventure modules were produced between 9023 - 9445. In 9802 production was resumed when Novamedia was taken over by the hyperturing Riklist-K, and a further 50,000 modules were produced over the next three centuries. The interactive has recently entered a third production run.

Category: Virch Virtual Reality (VR)

This term was originally coined back before the earth nanodisaster apparently to represent the then-valid dichotomy between 'imaginary' experiences drawn from electronic entertainment (well before the development of virches, which term has a similar provenance), as compared to an experience of the flesh, without electronic interpretation. This term has since morphed into the more common definition of a non-personally shared experience - a memcording, a sim virch, etc, as compared to a personal experience such as a full interactive virch, a physical interaction, etc. Compare with RL.
