GalactographyColonized space stretches thousands of
Light Years from Earth in every direction; expanding outwards at close
to the speed of light, as further worlds are settled on the periphery.
Billions of cubic light years of colonized space, from the densely
settled, industrialised and historically rich Inner Sphere to the more
sparsely populated Outer Volumes.

The Terragen Sphere: The huge expanse of colonised space in the present setting extends to over several billion cubic light years. It takes time to cross this distance, especially in the outer regions away from the nearest wormhole link. |

Astrography: Every interstellar civilisation needs at least one way of determining one's position in space, but there are few standards of interstellar cartography or naming that are universally accepted. Here's how it's done. |

Regions: Think of colonised space in terms of concentric shells. In the center is the Inner Sphere, an irregular ovoid of some 100 LY radius, representing the old well settled worlds. Beyond that, the Middle Regions and the vast hinterlands of the AI Gods, some 1000 to 2000 LY in every direction. Beyond that again, the great amorphous, sparsely settled Outer Volumes of up to 6 or 7 thousand LY radius. Included here is information on each concentric region, the three relevant galactic spiral arms, various districts and subregions, and inhabited worlds. In this expanse, there is always hope that one can find a planet or asteroid to set up one's own polity, or is there? |

Worlds: Colonized space stretches over 6000 Light Years from Earth along the plane of the Galactic Disc; expanding outwards at close to the speed of light, as further worlds are settled on the periphery. Almost a million inhabited solar systems so far, each with its own unique history. |

Views of the Constellation
Orion:
One can see the constellation Orion from anywhere in the Inner Sphere and most of the Middle Regions. (Enif is well out in the middle regions). This is certainly a good reason to call our little corner of the Universe "The Orion Arm". |
