Official OA Computer Game |
Just announcing work has begun on the first official OA computer game! This will probably be set in the immediate post-nanoswarm / dawn of the First Federation period (9th Century a.t. in the current timeline). This first game will be very much a space sim game, but will naturally also incorporate other elements of the OA universe
The game is still very much in the discussion pahse. there will; be two stages - Design Phase and Development Phase
Design Phase: We will set up a separate forum; more news as things come to hand. The setting will be 100% canonical re the OA universe.
Development Phase (programming) - this will be implementing what was decided in the design stage in a computer game program. Hopefully we will be able to find other people to help with this. (if you are interested and would like to help, please contact me
Because we want to get the game out soon, and because a full-featured game would take years with the limited resources we have at present, the first game(s) will be rather simple. If we can get more interest, then hopefully full-featured games will follow

More than eight centuries after tranquility [2], three centuries after all life was almost destroyed by out-of-control nanoswarms, two centuries after humanity was expelled from Earth by the AI GAIA, civilization is rebuilding. The surviving colonies, habitats and microcivilizations that have been existing and going their own way for centuries are being asked to join into a new union, the Federation of SolSys Polities (FSP) [3]
But this remains a lawless time, as the reach of the Federation is still small. Dangerous pockets of nanogoo remain, pirates and raiders abound, there are as many hostile as friendly ai, and many polities prefer to have nothing to do with this new movement

[3] (Federated Polities of SolSys) Some sort of anagram is necessary, because if we just say "The Federation" it seems like we are imitating Star Trek. The term "First Federation" would only date to much later, such as the 4th millenium a.t.
