The 154 artificial Supernovae involved in the Verifex event in M50 in Monoceros sterilised a region one thousand light years across, mostly in the Orion Federation.
The first warning of this enormous event, bizarrely enough, came from the future - before the actual detonation - via a relativistically displaced wormhole. The Orion federation outpost Mulhouse, 4 ly from the edge of M50, which had a local frame of reference six years ahead of the rest of the galaxy. A small number of craft managed to escape through the wormhole into UnikornIII system 40 light years away but a blast of gamma rays and neutrinos followed them, followed by the collapse of the wormhole itself. The two year advance warning was useless, however, as the Explosion was forty four light years distant, and the exploding wormhole had damaged half the habitats and craft in UnikornIII system beyond repair. All that could be done was to flee and carry the message to Endraemorion and the rest of the Galaxy.
Wormhole loss and the loss of markets was the main cause of a serious recession in the Orion Federation, and to a lesser extent in the neighboring Sophic League and Metasoft Version Tree. Hider, baseline independent and feral colonies in the central thousand light year sphere were completely annihilated, except some that could acquire Emple Dokcetic shielding (usually by becoming dependent territories or incurring a vast debt), but high tech Sephirotic colonies, except those destroyed by wormhole implosion in the first few months of the event, nearly all survived. This was due to picotech shielding, some obtained from the Emple Dokcetics, some pirate or independent versions of the same.
Because of the inverse square law the effect decreased quite rapidly until at 1,500 ly from M50 effect was approximately 8.5 times smaller than inside the sterilisation zone (allowing for a non- point source).
The Crystal Star Dominion was easily able to protect itself using its own technology, as it is located 1700 ly from the epicentre of the explosions in the direction of the Galactic rim. However many of the local nearbaseline cultures, with which The Dominion had formed trading agreements, suffered some moderate to severe damage. At the edge of the 1500 ly radius sphere the effect of the gamma ray and neutrino blast was serious, but survivable, even for a relatively lowtech system.
The Verifex disaster caused disturbance to ecological systems, both natural and artificial, over a five thousand light year diameter sphere. However towards the edge of this volume the damage was no more serious than moderate to severe global warming.
Behind the gamma ray and neutrino blast follows a much slower expanding shell of gas and dust, which will slow down in several hundred thousand years and form an unusually large bubble. The brilliant light emitted will exert pressure against existing gas and molecular clouds and trigger several starbuilding events in the local area (including possibly the Rosette nebula).
The apparent reappearance of the Amalgamation perversity in certain devastated Monoceros systems, is thought to be due to assistance from anti hu and anti sephirotic Panvirtual entities. This is the first time the PADO containment volume has known to have been breached since 8100 a.t.
