Psi Powers and OA

Q. I have been browsing through the piles and piles of pages on Orions Arm and i find it rather odd that there are no psi powers as far as I can see. I mean if there can be AI god-like beings then why do no psi powers appear?

Well, there are something akin to psi powers in OA. However they are very subtle. There is a brief entry under "esoterics" for psi-like (or at least arcane-ish) sorts of things. Also, there is empathic ability, but this is not so much telepathic, more just a strong and usually genetically engineered ability to understand the emotions and motivations of others.

In the original OA RPG there was a psi ability and gnosis which is somewhat esoteric, but this has been scrapped from the current game under development.

Blatant things like telekinetics are not currently provable in real life so these these things won't show up in OA until there is some hard evidence. But some things like clairvoyance might show up to some degree but they can usually be explained (though not necessarily 'are always explainable') through not so arcane means. Like the idea that some clairvoyance or future prediction is just the subconscious mind doing some really good slide rule work.

But who knows, there are some things even the top archailects can't prove or disprove, or so it's said. Usually these phenomena sneak about between the cracks and act inconspicuous. Truly paranormal phenomena aren't there to be poked at by curious archailects, but to be used by the desperate who need to believe. Or so it might be seen by some.

Of course if you happen to be a shaman in OA you have no way to prove (even to yourself) that your powers don't stem from a higher toposophic patron (or archailect puppet master).

Also there's an entry on "Filium's Proof", which suggests (but does not actually prove) that there might be some obscure or unseen forces working even beneath the facade of hoaxes and layers of archailect sponsored super powers.
