Total Annihilation

The battle over the transfer of consciousness from flesh to machines has lasted for over 4000 years and has depleted the resources of a galaxy. The remnants of the two major powers fight on, depleted, with the only possible outcome being the complete and utter annihilation of the other.

The story is generic cliched sci-fi stuff, but it deals with AIs versus clones.

Tech: The tech is mostly grounded in hard sci-fi. The structures and vehicles are built using nanotechnology, and there are lots of weapons-lasers (although they aren't hitscan, as they should be), gauss rifles, plasma cannon, disintegrator guns (which, FYI, work by breaking down atoms, forming a cloud of hydrogen and charged particles). Repairs are effected using streams of nanites, and structures/vehicles can be captured with specialized units that have nano-viruses. The main units 'commanders' are sent using galactic gates, which seem like wormhole generators to me.

Realism: The game's tech isn't uber-exotic or anything, but the ease of manufacture and battlefield manufacture just don't feel slow enough. Well, it is a fast-paced real time strategy game.

Fun, but not quite realistic.
