Femtotech artifacts are uncommon, and can fetch a very high price in some polities Legal Status: Very few sapients have access to basic femtotech templates. The TRHN and a number of other polities will occasionally give out baseline friendly femto. Such femto cannot be replicated by lower toposophic sophonts even in the most developed polities and worlds, and is much sort after. Femtotech works at the scale of elementary particles - leptons, hadrons, and quarks. Femtotech is beyond the reach of bionts and vecs alike, but advanced AIs and archailects are able to work on this level. Using Femtotech, the AIs were able to create entities based on femtoscale phenomena (femtolects), which are able to outperform the nanoscale archailects (nanolects) by a factor of a billion billion note for a given unit volume and time. Due to the enormous speed of computation in femtoscale, AIs are several singularity orders of magnitude above picotech intelligences. The femtolects replaced the picolects in the same way the picolects replaced the nanolects, thus becoming the dominant intelligence in the galaxy.
All the current archai use femtotech nodes to some extent (some also incorporate attotech and even further developments). Femtotech is integrated with picotech and nanotech, forming an inner processing core. The apparently magical or supernatural abilities of femto-enabled intelligences such as archai, high hypersingularitan powers, and seraiph, is due to their application of femtotech and femto-clarketech based devices. They use femtotech to control matter on the subatomic level, and can construct structures made of quarks, quantum fields and other exotica, as well as manipulate conventional matter in unusual ways.
In addition to the main empires and archai there are also femtoscale civilisations that have very little to do with the rest of the galaxy. These often arising independently among isolationist and other entities when they ascend to hypersingularitan toposophic spaces.
