For thousands of years, throughout the known galaxy, technology has enabled the colonisation of solar systems and the spread of life and intelligence. Yet technology has varied greatly, both in the application and purpose, in the depth of control over matter and energy, in level, and in the basic material that is used to work with. The type and level of tech will determine the society and the type of subsapient, sapient, and transapient beings that are able to comfortably exist therein, their ability to exploit and recycle resources, support creativity and info flow, and dissipate thermal pollution (the latter a serious problem with higher tech grades). Often several tech types will co-exist on a single world or habitat. The interconnected matrix of tech that pervades known space under transapient supervision and control is known as the technosphere. |

Level:
While most of the civilized galaxy is based on high tech and ultratech, various other tech levels - from the lowest prim level to the highest godtech - can be found throughout the Terragen sphere. Yet ever since the first Mind ascended to the higher toposophics, the design and control of the highest tech levels has been out of the hands of governments, corporations, and sapients. |

Technology can be judged based on the depth of control over matter and energy. The finer and denser the scale, the more advanced and potent the technology. In practice however, various tech scales tend to co-exist |

Type/Material:
Terragen technology can be broadly and generally divided into five primary types, depending on the material basis or building blocks that it uses. In practice these, especially the first three or four, are not sharply defined, but tend to merge into each other |

Application: Technology has many uses and fields of application, representing specialised applications, from those that are relatively simple to others that can only be used and understood by high toposophic intelligences. |
