Elemental Taboo is a game that is similar to Technological Taboo. Instead of placing limitations on a particular method or technology it restricts the abundance of the various elements from which technology and living organisms may be built.

The first instance of this game being played seriously was during the second millennium A.T. when it was used in an attempt to create technology that would allow a long-duration starship for use by Leavers to be built using nothing but the mix of elements and compounds found in the interstellar medium. Since then others have attempted to use Elemental Taboo to create technologies suitable for other environments with limiting elemental mixes, such as that in a very young universe.
