Cableville's origins began in 4710 A.T. when a group of 27 first singularity cyborgs and eir followers/pets (around 500 nearbaselines) sought out a Type K star to build a place away from the post-Version War economic chaos. Being of MPA citizenship, eir fondness for megastructures led them to consider building a topopolis. A topopolis is a tube-like habitat, rotating to produce gravity on the inner surface, which is extended into a loop around local star. Topopoli can be looped several times around the local star, in a geometric figure known as a torus knot. Construction on Spaghetti, the smallest of the knots, began in 4733 and was finished in 5010 – the cyborgs lacked anything more than nanotech, so the diameter was limited to Bishop Ring dimensions. In 5136 a relativist ship from the MPA arrived, which led to Cableville being connected to the nexus by way of Medius in 5204.
Over the next few decades Cableville's economy grew mainly due to tourism (topopoli tend to be fairly rare; most builders prefer orbital necklaces and dyson swarms instead). In 5405 the system was sold to a transavant second singularity AI Power named HolyDeveloper. HolyDeveloper planned to upgrade the system with the addition of three more topopoli – Ouroboros, Wyrme and Swirl to be built using femtotech (ability to comprehend femtotech was HolyDeveloper's spike in knowledge).
Following the completion of Ouroboros and near-completion of Wyrme in 5973 the project ran into serious economic problems. For whatever reason HolyDeveloper made a bad judgement (or, some say, deliberately did this for reasons of es own) and the project failed to make any profit. HolyDeveloper promptly downloaded emself into a pitch drive ship that had been purchased earlier and took off before e was caught and es programs auctioned off. Most of the tourists went to find another fad and Cableville was left to dedicated AIs and the few sophonts who had set up residence there.
For two millennia nothing happened until the rich megacorp Dancing Stars – consisting of seventeen second-singularity sophonts – decided to purchase the system. Dancing Stars finished the construction of Wyrme, built a series of 50 mobile habitats with standard GUT Drives and converted some of Cableville's Oort cloud into computronium into which ey downloaded eir minds (disturbing some no doubt annoyed Hiders who took eir habitats and disappeared into the void soon afterwards).
Ey began to build the surfaces of Spaghetti, Ouroboros and Wyrme into to spaces for denser habitation and tourism while also meming or moving some of the existing cultures that had sprung up during the previous millennium.
In 7852 Dancing Stars began to sell their planets to the rest of the NoCoZo and then began to purchase large amounts of computronium from Himmelsschmiede while at the same time converting most of the remainder of the Oort cloud into computronium.
When all of the work was completed in 7870 the members of Dancing Stars officially disassociated emselves from the NoCoZo to form an independent polity. Ey merged eir minds into a collective consciousness and underwent ascension to the third singularity, using the computronium purchased earlier and also subsuming all sentients above sapient level into the system. Ultrafun Playling was born, and in the form of a hypofemtotech ISO overseeing the culture e had made on Cableville.
In 8120 Ultrafun obtained a weylforge from Heavenly Reach and opened a wormhole to the nearby red dwarf/neutron star pair MXRDR55 (colloquially known as Mixredder). This system has been used mainly for energy collection and as Cableville's own deep well industrial zone.
Over the following millennia Ultrafun constructed another 50 mobile habitats with diametric drives, made a few more cultural projects in Cableville and made a tidy profit from trade and tourism.
Today Cableville still attracts billions of sophonts every year. Most consider it to be a holiday resort, but it is more than that. It is a textbook example of a long-lasting ultratech libertarian socialist economy with only minimal memetics to keep it running (most libertarian socialist economies at ultratech level tend to be unstable without heavy memetics; only transapients seem to understand why). In fact, one of the prime attractions of Cableville is that nearly all of the goods there are produced by sapient-level beings.
Ultrafun does intervene in some cases. E has been known to disband any groups that arise if they could pose a significant threat to others. E also intervenes memetically in the form of the Friend Chambers – these are thousands of inconspicuous rooms spread throughout the topopli and the habitats. While they contain advanced femtotech they are not massive or particularly godlike in their appearance. Any sapient can walk in and have a friendly "chat" with one of Ultrafun's avatars
Cableville's dominant physical feature is the three topopoli. Spaghetti is the narrowest at 1,000 kilometers in diameter, but to counter that is an order 50 topopolis (that is, it encircles the star 50 times before joining back up to itself). Ouroboros and Wyrme are of order 2 and are four million kilometers in diameter each. Even if one doesn't visit the topopoli themselves there is till much fun to be had in the 100 habitats, all of which are of O'Neill cylinder dimensions.
