Originally Old Earth mystic tradition in which followers seek inner knowledge directly from God through meditation and ritual and dancing; developed as an ascetic reaction to the formalism and laws of the Qur'an. They incorporated ideas from Neoplatonism, Buddhism, and Christianity.
Many Sufi ideas, both original and reformed, were directly incorporated into the Stellar Umma, and from there Sufi memes spread widely throughout the civilized galaxy. However, little remains of the original Old Earth practices.
