Octoperiors are a widespread and varied clade of cephalopodprovolves, with roots in pre-ExpulsionOld Earth. Unlike many provolved clades, the first provolved octopuses were developed by selective breeding rather than direct genetic engineering. This approach had achieved some limited results before the Great Expulsion, but true provolution of octopoids was not attained until the Federation Era.
Since that time octopus provolves have flourished, largely because of their ability to adapt to a microgravity environment, and their ingenious and inquisitive nature which is nevertheless significantly different in kind to human or mammalian mentality. Soon after provolution, enhanced octopoids with human-level intelligence began to enhance themselves using breeding, genetic engineering and artificial augmentation until many of them reached a rough equivalence with human superior capabilities.
In the Current Era octopus provolves are very diverse, and most claim octoperior status; these include glints, octocyborgs, lazurogened octopoids based on extinct species, pseudolazurogened morphs based on fantasy octopuses such as the Kraken, and many others. One significant centre of octosuperior population is Cephalotopia, a system which is shared with the Bitenic Squid (a clade which sometimes has a difficult relationsip with their cephalopod cousins).
Chromataforum, The - Text by Worldtree A massive megastructure and series of virtual worlds belonging to the zoeific biopolity built as a massive forum for sophonts who use chromatophores as a primary way to communicate. The original Chromataforum reached its peak in the 7890s at nearly 3 trillion embodied active members and between 7-15 trillion virtual members (depending on how individuality was measured).
