This is a pretty interesting paper which has some estimates of the computational complexity of the Earth’s biosphere.

It’s probably apropos to consider it in light of updating the Ultimate Chip et. al. articles.
In a more carefully considered way, as I share Drashner’s annoyance at incoherent changes by individuals who didn’t appear to bother to read and consider the source material and calculations which informed the articles.
