RE: Proof-reading EG - Centauri5921 - 02-20-2016

Just noticed - on the linelayer page, the word "linelayer" is misspelt in the first sentence. ;p

The Latin word "gens" means clan, family, stock, race, tribe, people, nation, descendant, etc. Hence the OA term "Terragens." Meaning, of course, all the clades and provolves and what not whose ancestors came from Terra.

However, in the EG I frequently come across "Terragen." Is there a reason for dropping the 's' or is this a typo that has become habitual?
Here are some examples with the errors(?) in boldface:

Cultural Factors
The Terragen milieu that began as long ago as the rise of the Sephirotics and continues to thrive and grow in the present day is in some ways unique, and unlike anything that existed in the pre-Technocalypse days of Old Earth or even in the Interplanetary Era. Though there is huge diversity, and there are exceptions to every rule, there are a few factors which affect nearly all Terragen cultures:

Culture and Society
Major cultures in the Terragen Sphere
Terragen Metaempires
There are four main cultural divisions in the Orion's Arm region known as the Terragen Sphere: Sephirotics, civilizations that are guided or ruled by transapients that seem to act in the interests of humans and other ordinary sophonts; Ahumans, civilizations ruled by transapients that are indifferent or even hostile to humans and other lesser beings; Nonaligned, signifying civilizations that are neither clearly Ahuman nor Sephirotic, and may be ruled by lower level transapients or even by ordinary sophonts, and finally the Xenosophonts, a diverse group ranging from ancient and powerful civilizations that may surpass anything Terragen to subsophont beings that live in some equivalent of Old Earth's Paleolithic; the only thing the xenosophonts have in common is that they exist within the Terragen sphere but are not descended from or provolved by Terragens. There are also some common organizations or treaties to which any civilization might belong

Sorry I misunderstood this when you first posted it. Dropping the "S" isn't a typo. Whilst the word might technically be Latin we treat it the same as most English words. Having an "s" on the end is the plural form, terragen the singular.

Whatever. As I posted elsewhere, languages get jumbled about over time and via borrowing from other languages. Motorized cart --> motorcar --> 'car --> wheels

Hey guys. Just wondering - should the Cthonids page be updated? I recall some talk a while back about AT/CE - the article implies they were recently contacted, although 6800 seems like a good time for them to be encountered, as we don't have a whole lot of stuff happening in the middle timeline.

This is something that seems to be an unintended consequence of our Content Management System; the caption cannot contain a link, otherwise it repeats itself in a bizarre and random fashion. If I remember correctly this did not happen when we first adopted the system, but it has started happening for an unknown reason. I'll remove the link and the problem will go away.

Yes, the article needs more data about the later history of this species. Keeping the date at 6800 seems a sensible idea; I wonder what else might have happened in the meantime? The Cthonids have the special ability to split themselves up into independent but co-operative segments; this could lead to some interesting politics if they develop an advanced civilisation.

RE: Proof-reading EG - Drashner1 - 06-29-2016

I'm actually planning to do an update of the Cthonids after I get a couple articles done. It won't be until I'm back from vacation, but before the end of the year.

Thanks,

Todd
