The Cool (but plausible?) Spaceship Art Thread - Worldtree - 07-14-2021

this sat in the drafts folder for 3 years, so clearing it out -

here's some cool but plausible? looking images of rockets

**Since plausibility in speculative spacecraft is a very grey spectrum, use your own judgement. The closer to 5.9 (but not 6, reality) on Moh's Scale of Science Fiction Hardness the better.
Illustrations and "technical" diagrams of Battlestar Galactica (Battlestar Galactica), Star destroyers (Star Wars), the Starship Enterprise (Star Trek), and the Moya (Farscape) probably don't belong here- wonderful and inspirational as they all may be.

These are very nice. Smile

That said - this reminds me of something that's come to mind off and on:

As cool as most 'hard science' type spaceship images are, most also usually feel very 'near future' to me. They are generally very modular and hard edged, similar to our current space vehicles and the space station. They look like they have been welded or bolted together.

But given Y11k tech, that isn't how 'modern' OA spacecraft are created. Instead they are 'grown' via nanotech/nanoforges, employ lots of smart matter, and possibly some amount of fractal architecture or the like.

It would be very cool to see some OA ships that follow that kind of design philosophy while also retaining the 'hard science' elements such as rockets and radiators and such.

Just throwing this out there in case someone is looking for an art project or is inspired by the idea. Smile

I've been a bit less active recently, because of real-life distractions; but I've been thinking about this concept. An 'organically' grown conversion drive ship from the Age of Establishment or a bit later might look like this. The components need not be made of organic components, but they might consist of complex and smart materials which have been constructed incrementally with biomimetic methods. Not every ship would need rotating sections, since adapting the ship's complement to microgravity would be fairly straightforward.

This is so cool looking!!
Do you have any other views of this?

(Is it just me or is it weird that after putting in all the effort into a 3d model there's only 1 view of things for so many models?)

RE: The Cool (but plausible?) Spaceship Art Thread - stevebowers - 11-06-2021

Hmm; I'll try putting it into Celestia to see how it looks on the move.

Agreed this is very cool!

also wondering if making vein-like structures on the radiators might help the organic look ?

RE: The Cool (but plausible?) Spaceship Art Thread - stevebowers - 11-06-2021

I'll try that too.

I made this image using Anim8or's animation function (it is the first time I've used it); to be honest, I'm not very happy with it yet, but maybe I can learn some of the tricks.

Yeah that seems like a decent model to experiment with the animation function - though I can see why you're unhappy I'm sure you can try changing the frame rate or the perspective to fly toward the camera or something. good luck!
