Post: RE: Considering Linelayers

Thought: at 6.7x10^16kg for a picometer-scale wormhole, moving communications wormholes around is problematic for the giant brains (J-brains, S-brains, etc.) that use them. I don't mean for linelaying...

I'm going to second the vote for "Dust." The short film format gives a lot of folks the opportunity to experiment. Some of the short films are stinkers, some are very clever. I've got a backlog of abo...

I think there's a bit of disasterbation around solar flares and the threat to Earth. The solar storms that have hit Earth in the 20th and 21st Centuries only caused some inconveniences. The 1989 storm...

Neuron stars would have a fascinating advantage over other mega-brains of similar S-level: it's very compact. Assuming speed of light is the limiting factor, the furthest points of an N-brain are only...

Post: RE: Rheomorph (Sophont category)

Short comment: I like the idea. OA makes body-hopping quite possible, and terms like "vec" or "biont" can be rendered inapplicable by such hops. "Rheomorph" covers that gap.

I like the idea in general. Perhaps call it "dragons teeth" strategy, for the way warships just seem to pop out of the ground? However, aren't all beamrider nodes fairly populous, trafficked places...

Just don't fall for the "iron bombing" idea. Stars already have lots of iron in their cores. A little extra iron isn't going to catalyze their doom.
