Beta Pictoris c
#1
Today, the discovery of the possible second planet in the Beta Pictoris system was announced.

From what little we know about this new world, it orbits ~2.7 AU away from the star, in a moderately eccentric orbit with e = ~0.24. This brings it as close to the star as 2 AU and as far as 3.35 AU. Its minimum mass is ~9 times Jupiter. Assuming similar inclination as Beta Pictoris b, this should be close to its true mass.

The high eccentricity of this planet implies some sort of violent interaction with other worlds at some point in the past. This could be bad news for the emerging smaller planets residing inside Beta Pictoris B's orbit.
