I haven't really used the Discord server much, but from what I have seen of it (including notifications on my phone when there is activity) the level of conversation is somewhat dependent on time of day and the time zone you're in. I live on the East Coast of the United States and it appears that a lot of the current crop of active members are somewhere in Europe or something - certainly it seems a lot of discussion starts before I'm awake and has wrapped up early in my day.

Of course, as more people join across multiple time zones, the more activity there will be at any given time.
