Hello, I recently discovered the OAUP from an offhand mention in a YouTube video and then again on the fantastic website Atomic Rockets by Winchell Chung while doing some research for my own science fictional universe and I was amazed at the level of depth and the sheer amount of material in this project. I haven't read that much just yet, (mostly because there's just such a vast wealth of things to read) but I knew I'd like to sign up here and see what I could do to help out the project when I can. And to just talk to other people who enjoy writing about plausible science fictional universes/settings.
By the way, I was shocked to find that there's basically nothing on YouTube about the OAUP. I'd imagined with the amount of well researched material and the sheer time this project has been happening someone would have made a few videos about it by now.
Anyway, great to be here and hope to meet all of you soon.

welcome to OA!
what parts of the project were you wanting to learn more about? Let us know if you've got any questions
you're certainly welcome to make some content for OA on youtube yourself if you' like

Well, I've done the primer, (though I could do with another round at it I think, lol) and a few EG articles, the one about the Technocalypse in particular and a few others that I can't quite remember at the moment. Mostly I'm just going through what seems interesting to me at the time. Is there any particular articles or stories you'd recommend me read to get a better understanding of the universe? I'm sure that's an incredibly vague question but I feel a little lost when looking through the website at the moment.
And I was thinking about making a few videos talking about/maybe reading EG articles but I would have to learn a lot more about editing and get a decent microphone before I even consider doing that. Not even sure why I've wanted to do that, I just notice all these "lore" channels on YouTube and thought this would be a great thing for something like that, especially since there's basically nothing on the site about it.

Hi There - Welcome to OA!
To get a better understanding of the OA universe in a reasonably compact form, I'd recommend the following main articles from the EG:
Galactography
Sophonts
Technology
Culture and Society
Some of what they cover is also in the Primer, but a good bit is not.
Hope this helps!
Todd

I think perhaps there are so few YouTube “advertising” OA because people who might create them are instead having too much fun
arguing about discussing the setting.
Also, there are quite a few 3D descriptions (with some limited interactivity to change the viewpoint) of planetary systems in the setting, developed using Celestia. They can be more fun than just watching passively.
A scripted tour through them might be desirable at some point, perhaps. See

Yes, I've seen some of those, very interesting looking stuff. They definitely have a unique look to them.

Welcome to OA! Out of curiosity, what YouTube video were you watching that mentioned OA? Agreed, that having OA content or commentary on YouTube would be great. Perhaps you could help with that one day. Cheers!
