The actual fact of the matter is that determination of what is or is not 'excessive' is entirely subjective and will differ from person to person. So if you say the amount of 'vulgarity' is excessive and I say its just fine or even insufficient, which one of wins?

Trying to dress up this fact with high sounding rhetoric about 'the audience' or the like is just a time wasting exercise.

If you personally find the amount of 'vulgarity' (a concept that is itself entirely subjective) in the story not to your taste or 'excessive' in your personal opinion, then by all means say so. But have the courage to own it and take responsibility for it rather than attempting to avoid this (or add entirely imaginary weight to your personal opinions) by trying to present your personal taste as either some sort of objective fact or as having any connection to some mythical 'audience factor' that is the universal arbiter of taste for all written works and which all authors everywhere must bow down to.

Okay, you made some good points.
