I find the dating statement copied below to be somewhat confusing, since it doesn't specify the time from which it's measuring the date. Since the formation of the galaxy? Before humanity existed?
I suggest inserting "ago" or something similar.
The diamondoid outer layer shows a consistent pitting due to micrometeorites that gives a date of 1,452 (+/- 5) million years for its manufacture.
might be better as
The diamondoid outer layer shows a consistent pitting due to micrometeorites that gives a date of 1,452 (+/- 5) million years pre-AT for its manufacture.
(I started to use BAT, consistent with current tendencies to use BCE, but that acronym bothers me for various reasons.)
