The Orion's Arm Universe Project Forums

Greetings from South Korea!

Hello. I am Korean, and although I can read English to a certain extent, my writing skills are lacking, so I rely on translation software.

I am creating an alternate history scenario for Orion's Arm titled "Over the Horizon" (abbreviated as OtH) on Naver BAND, and based on that, I have been running a tabletop grand strategy game since 2023.

I have been interested in hard science fiction, including the Foundation series, since I was in the second year of middle school, and I have been creating an alternate history/hard science fiction world called "Kardashev Universe" based on my own fictional ideology called "human distributionism."

While creating the Kardashev Universe, I came across this site while Googling for ideas about the Lofstrom Loop.

With its realistic structure resembling a real-world encyclopedia, the orbital ring made of intertwined trees, and the AI god that governs the universe... I became unable to see any other science fiction after that.

While writing a series of introduction articles for a tabletop game based on the alternate history of OA I created, I was introduced to the OA forum through the DC Inside SF Gallery, one of the few communities in Korea that deals with OA. I was disappointed that there were few people in Korea who understood this genre I love, so it's truly a relief.

Hello! I'm also a newbie

I'd like to know though: what is "human distributionism"? Taking a wild guess, I would guess that it is about distributing humans equally? Or distributing their qualities equally?

I too have gotten quite obsessed with OA. Very absorbing! Big Grin

Have a fun time!

The following is my description of human distributionism(인본분배주의, The original meaning of the word is somewhat ambiguous, so it can be translated in various ways into English) on my JWiki (a Korean wiki specialising in worldbuilding).

Just as democracy and capitalism were the defining ideologies of the previous world, Anthropodistributionism is the most important ideology in this world.

In this worldview, the concept of “anthropos” (humanity) is divided into three components:

Environment: Climate, terrain, location, ecosystems—everything that surrounds human beings

Body: Skin color, physical strength, intelligence, appearance—everything that constitutes the human body

Choice: Free will, culture, strategic decisions, traditions—everything that shapes the human mind as a result of the two elements above

This ideology asserts that all three elements must be equitably distributed to every human being.

---

Distribution of the Body

Consider this: if we assume that individual achievement depends on ability, then we can strive to distribute ability equally among all people.

Speaking from my own experience, I was born with mild autism spectrum disorder. I was born in South Korea, where I had to constantly interpret people's nonverbal messages, but I couldn't do it. I didn't understand what it meant when people shook their heads at my words and didn't speak, and I didn't know how to apologise without my teacher's guidance.

Education could have helped me memorise some of society’s unspoken rules, but society still feels like a scary place to me. This is a situation where abilities are not properly distributed.

To this ideology, "celebrating diversity" is hypocritical. It is like ignoring someone suffering from paralysis or bleeding and glossing over it with the vague term "diversity." Therefore, if the person in question gives permission, it is society's role to help them overcome their shortcomings.

In reality, this would be an impossible approach.
But in this world, biotechnology has advanced instead of mechanical engineering.
Here, a person's strength, appearance, even intelligence can be modified with ease.

Distribution of the Environment

Why does Russia seek war with Ukraine?
It is not because humans are inherently brutal creatures.
It is because Russia lacks natural geographic barriers for self-defense.
Ukraine, which was once a shield for Russia during the Soviet era, has now become NATO's spear.
If the Ural Mountains had been west of Moscow, the conflict might never have escalated to this point.

Why is Africa poorer than Eurasia?
It is not because Africans are lazy or inferior.
It is because Africa’s geography has historically hindered the development of civilization and isolated regions from each other.
The vast tropical rainforests, massive deserts, and formidable mountain ranges have all obstructed the rise of interconnected and competitive societies in Africa.

If we could distribute climate and terrain evenly across the world, perhaps humanity would not need to kill and slander each other to such an extent.

In reality, distributing climate and environment is an impossible task.
But in this world, geoengineering is extremely advanced.
As early as the 1970s, humanity had already succeeded in halting hurricanes.
