 Planet Climate Sandbox
#1
Hello, I have created this planetary climate sandbox (or "guided AI to create it", whatever your stance is) using the Claude Code AI coding agent and the Codex plugin.:

https://m1omg.github.io/planet-climate-sandbox/altdev/

Using the Claude Code AI coding agent and the Codex plugin.

Github: https://github.com/m1omg/planet-climate-sandbox

It uses a zonal energy-balance model over 18 bands to model various climate states such as a stable liquid water bearing state, moist greenhouse, wet and dry runaway greenhouse states, various interesting tidally locked states etc... It has young Mars and Venus presets as well as some exoplanets. I'm trying to make it as accurate as possible but given that it's a vibe coded browser based project, don't expect extreme scientific accuracy, still, I tried to make it reasonably accurate.

Attached is an example screenshot of the simulation with a world at the verge of a runaway greenhouse effect.

1. What are your plans for this app? Do you plan to keep developing it, or is it fine the way it is?

2. On the Earth's surface, the continents appear to be reversed, as if in a mirror. Is there a reason for this?

This looks very interesting!
What (for instance) are the parameters of a Dune World?

They represent planets that have enough water to support life but not enough to support extensive bodies of water such as oceans. Interestingly, according to 2011 and 2013 studies, the inner habitable zone is far closer for them than for planets with big oceans like Earth https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1089...cted=true& https://arxiv.org/abs/1304.3714 though a 2026 study suggests the opposite https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.3847/PSJ/ae4faa my opinion is that its still up in the air, I went with the traditional approach here.

Basically, dry but not desiccated and with an active carbon cycle and regional, limited liquid water.

Dry OA gaians tend to fall into the Xeric or Hyperxeric categories.

True true, let me know if this was the wrong forum category to put this in, if it was, I apologise. I made this as a general planetary climate (and feature creep has grown this into geology...[as it simulates volcanism to some extent, regarding volcanic greenhouse gas emission]) simulator, not specifically OA, though it can def be used for OA planets.

1. I'm still developing it every day.
To be honest, there are 2 more branches actually, a "dev" branch which got a bit too ambitious and became less accurate as a result, and a "mainline" branch so outdated I kinda abandoned it, here they are:

2. The shader’s longitude lookup was bugged and was flipping them.

There's other bugs too, the mouse controls seem to be inverted, including the scrollwheel, and the panning in particular feels to sensitive. And also the playback controls seem to do nothing?
Your mind is software. Program it. Your body is a shell. Change it. Death is a disease. Cure it. Extinction is approaching. Fight it.

You need to set the timescale. You probably have it at 1 year/second.
